Batting sensation Vaibhav Sooryavanshi recently received his maiden call-up to India's senior team ahead of the T20I tours of Ireland and England.
Ahead of the series, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has arranged for his father, Sanjeev, to join him in Sri Lanka ahead of the 50-over tri-series. The board has extended the option for his parents to accompany him.
"Vaibhav Sooryavanshi's father is arriving today in Sri Lanka and we'll offer him that if he wants to go to the UK and Ireland also, we'll do that. Vaibhav was selected for India A team a few days ago and soon he will be a part of the India senior men's team," said BCCI's secretary Devajit Saikia.
"So to make him comfortable with the new environment, especially with him being a child, we have made arrangements for his father to go to Sri Lanka and be with his son so that he gets used to being in the new situation," he added.
Speaking about his selection in the national team, father Sanjeev expressed happiness and said that the left-handed batsman has received the reward for his hard work.
"We were at home and were waiting for something good to happen. We were very happy when the announcement was made. Entire family, people in the society and village came to our home to congratulate us. Everyone distributed sweets, laddus and crackers were even burst. We are very, very happy. Vaibhav has worked very hard since childhood for this - his aim to play for the country. Today, he has got the reward of his hard work and will get the saubhagya (the good fortune) to play for his country. We are very, very happy for him," he said.
