Anjuman-I-Islam look to retain Harris Shield title against gritty Al-Barkaat

The stage is set for the biggest inter-school cricket clash of the season at the iconic Wankhede Stadium, as defending champions Anjuman-I-Islam Allana English School (Fort) take on a determined Al-Barkaat Malik Muhammad English School (Kurla) in the 129th Dream Sports Mumbai School Sports Association (MSSA) inter-school Harris Shield final on Tuesday.

With history, pride and a coveted title at stake, the three-day encounter promises to be a fitting culmination to Mumbai school cricket's most prestigious tournament.

Anjuman-I-Islam have been one of the most consistent teams this season, showing resilience with both bat and ball across conditions. Their journey to the final has been marked by disciplined performances, strong partnerships and the ability to seize crucial moments.

Interestingly, these two sides have already crossed paths during the league stage. That contest ended in a draw, but Anjuman-I-Islam emerged with the advantage on first-innings lead, earning three crucial points. While there wasn't an outright winner, the result underlined Anjuman-I-Islam's ability to marginally outplay their opponents over sustained periods.

However, Al-Barkaat enter the final with renewed belief and a strong sense of purpose. Their campaign has been built on grit, teamwork and the hunger to reclaim past glory. Al-Barkaat coach Nafees Khan said: "We played well to reach so far and we are going to give our best to lift the cup. We are well prepared. Whatever the situations are, we have planned to overcome them. The last time we played in the final was in 2022, and it's been a long period since we won the Harris Shield."

Anjuman-I-Islam skipper Yuvaan Sharma acknowledged the pressure but stressed on his team's calm approach heading into the final. "There is lots of pressure on us to retain the title, but we have kept our plans simple. It's a three-day game and everything depends on the toss. We will grab every opportunity and fight till the end," he said.
