In the third ODI match against England, Team India suffered a loss by 27 runs at the Lord's Cricket Ground in the City of Westminster.
During the match, Team India's star batting duo of Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli delivered big knocks. Facing 110 balls, Rohit scored 138 runs, including 17 boundaries and five maximums. On the other hand, Kohli garnered 74 runs in 60 deliveries, laced with four boundaries and three maximums.
Following the performances, former Team India skipper Kapil Dev feels that Rohit and Kohli should be given chances as long as they are performing.
"Certainty is never ever applied to anybody. Whoever keeps performing, keeps playing. It doesn't matter (who he is). I would say, you keep watching the performance and let them play as much as they can," he told PTI.
He then said that Team India's think tank should decide on picking the right players in the squad.
"Even Sachin Tendulkar had a lot of cricket left in him (when he retired). Let the selectors do that job. I'm not going to say who's dropped. It's the selectors' and the team management's job. I'm assessing after watching television, so it's easy to talk about that," said Dev.
"Let's give the responsibility to the management and to the selectors to pick the best team. If they lose, we should stand by them," he added.
The former cricketer also said that fans should be proud of Rohit's contribution to the game over the years.
"He (Rohit) is not 20 years old. He is almost 40, and everybody has to retire. But the amount of happiness he has given to everybody-not just Indian people, but everybody around the world -- hats off to him. What he has given us for so many years, we should be proud of that. And as much as he can play, or as the selectors or captain think, he should play," said the 67-year-old former cricketer.
After concluding the series against England, the "Men in Blue" will lock horns with Zimbabwe for the three-match T20I series. The first match between Team India and Zimbabwe is scheduled to be played on July 23 at the Harare Sports Club.
