The Mumbai T20 league is set to start on June 1, while the league organised by the Mumbai Cricket Association has been one of the finest across the country. The upcoming season of the league was formally launched in Mumbai on Saturday, with captains from both the men's and women's competitions gathering ahead of the tournament's start.
The domestic franchise-based tournament, organised by the Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA), will be held at the Wankhede Stadium from June 1 to June 13.
For the first time, the Mumbai T20 league will also feature a women's competition, marking an expansion of the league since its inception in 2018.
The launch event on May 30 was attended by MCA President Ajinkya Naik, League Governing Council Chairman Rajdip Gupta, officials of the association, team representatives and players participating in the competition.
The Mumbai T20 League will feature several established Mumbai and India cricketers, including Ajinkya Rahane, Shreyas Iyer, Shardul Thakur, Shivam Dube and Sarfaraz Khan, alongside emerging domestic talent.
Organisers said that the league continues to serve as a platform for young players seeking opportunities at higher levels of the game.
Speaking at the event, MCA President Ajinkya Naik highlighted the role of the tournament in developing talent, noting that several players who featured in previous editions later went on to represent India.
Rajdip Gupta said the introduction of the women's tournament was a key objective for the governing council. The inaugural women's competition will feature three teams and provide a structured platform for women cricketers from Mumbai to compete in a franchise-based format.
Captains from all the teams shared their views ahead of the tournament. North Mumbai Panthers captain Ajinkya Rahane described the league as an important opportunity for young cricketers to showcase their abilities, while SOBO Mumbai Falcons skipper Shreyas Iyer said the competition had grown significantly since its previous editions.
Arcs Andheri captain Shivam Dube expressed optimism about the season, while Eagle Thane Strikers captain Shardul Thakur anticipated intense competition among some of Mumbai's strongest batting talents.
The women's captains also welcomed the launch of the new competition. Aakash Tigers Mumbai Western Suburbs captain Humairaa Kaazi said the tournament would offer valuable exposure to aspiring players, while SOBO Mumbai Falcons captain Sayali Satghare said her team aimed to play an attacking brand of cricket in the inaugural season.
The 13-day non-stop cricketing action will feature 30 matches across the men's and women's competitions, culminating in the finals on June 13 at the Wankhede Stadium. Matches will be broadcast live on television and digital streaming platforms.
