Veteran batsman Suryakumar Yadav can still make a comeback to Team India only if he manages to score consistently in domestic cricket, said a source in the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI).
Suryakumar, who led Team India to the T20 World Cup 2026 title, was snubbed from the captaincy role in the format and was also dropped from the squad, following his struggles with the bat ahead of the tours of Ireland and England. The BCCI appointed Shreyas Iyer as India's new T20I captain.
"Doors for Suryakumar Yadav are still open. He is not currently in the scheme of things, but he remains eligible to come back if he scores runs in domestic cricket consistently," said a BCCI source.
After Iyer's appointment for the leadership role, the "Men in Blue" have suffered a shocking loss in the series against Ireland and England.
However, Team India will now engage in the three-match ODI series against England. The cricket fans will be excited to witness superstars Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma take the field.
The first match of the three-match series against the Englishmen is scheduled to be played on July 14 at the Edgbaston Cricket Ground in Birmingham. The second ODI between the teams will be played on July 16 at the Sophia Gardens Cricket Ground in Cardiff. The Lord's Cricket Ground in the City of Westminster will host the third ODI on July 19.
It will be interesting to see if the "Men in Blue" manage to register a win in the ODI series, after consecutive defeats in the two T20I series against Ireland and England. The visitors' management will expect Kohli and Rohit to deliver big performances against the hosts.
