Nitesh Siwach missed out on a historic gold but secured India's first silver medal in Greco-Roman wrestling at the Asian Games since 1962. Nitesh went down 0-4 to Japan's home favourite Yuri Nakazato in the men's 97kg final.
Malwa Singh (52kg) and Ganpat Andalkar (+97kg) had won gold in 1962 Games while Udey Chand (70kg), Sajjan Songh (87kg) and Maruti Mane (97kg) won silver medals.
"I am very happy that I made it to the final. I could have done better, but I am still lacking. I will now focus on the World Championships and 2028 Olympic qualifiers next year," said Nitesh, the son of a milkman from Jagsi village in Haryana's Panipat district.
Meanwhile, Mansi Ahlawat lost her bronze medal play-off in the women's 62kg event. She was beaten 2-5 by Mongolia's Altjin Togtokh, whose strong defence stood out in the medal bout.
