Don Bosco High School (Matunga) completed a memorable double at the Mumbai School Sports Association (MSSA) National Sports Day 2026 hockey tournament recently, winning both the boys U-12 and U-14 titles against their arch-rivals St Stanislaus High School (Bandra) at Azad Maidan on Saturday.
In the U-12 final, Don Bosco edged past St Stanislaus 3-2 in a closely fought contest. Dwayne D'Souza, Tejas Gupta and Marcusshebran Jesusas scored for the Matunga school, while Liam Dharmai and Nathan Pires found the net for St Stanislaus.
The U-14 final produced an even tighter battle, with Don Bosco prevailing 1-0 via penalty strokes after the teams were locked 2-2 at the end of regulation time.
Arjun Pawar and Swaraj Salunke scored for Don Bosco in regulation time, while Xander Vaz and David Miranda were on target for St Stanislaus. In the tie-breaker, Salunke held his nerve to convert the decisive penalty and help the Matunga lads clinch the title.
Among the girls, Mount Carmel ICSE (Bandra) and Duruelo Convent (Bandra) emerged champions in the U-12 and U-14 categories respectively. The Mount Carmel girls produced a dominant show in the U-12 final, defeating Ryan International High School (Chembur) 6-1. Ishi Dhal scored twice, while Elsah Barretto, Zalika Joseph, Emma Mascarenhas and Genezia Pereira netted one goal each.
For Ryan International, Bhavya Katkar netted the only goal.
U-12 girls hockey champions Mount Carmel ICSE
In the U-14 final, the Duruelo girls beat Carmel of St Joseph (Malad) 4-2. Farin Shaikh was the star of the final, netting a fine hat-trick, while Sanskriti Rajak added the fourth goal. Kayra Palkar scored both goals for Carmel of St Joseph.
