Serena Williams sick after eating dog food

Rome: Serena Williams overcame a bout of sickness brought on by eating dog food to beat Christina McHale and set up a quarter-final clash with Svetlana Kuznetsova at the Italian Open.

World No 1 Williams confessed to an urgent toilet visit several hours after sampling some of her pet dog Chip's food in a video posted on Snapchat - but recovered in time to win 7-6 (9/7) 6-1 against fellow American McHale.

"I thought ‘what the heck, I'm gonna try a piece.' It looks good. So I ate a spoonful. Don't judge me!" Williams said.
"Let's fast forward two hours. I just ran to the toilet like I thought I was gonna pass out. I mean it did taste weird. I force-swallowed it. It tasted kind of like house-cleaner thing. I don't know what they put in these dog foods, but Chip liked it.

"But I don't think it's consumable for humans. They should have wrote that! So now I feel really sick. It was just a spoonful but I don't feel so good." Williams replied to queries on Thursday by saying: "I'm not the most serious person off the court. On the court I am, but off the court I don't have a serious bone in my body." Smiling, she added: "In fact, I have been told I need to grow up a lot." Admitting she was feeling no serious ill effects of the incident, she added: "No, thank God! But I don't know how my dog eats that. I guess he's okay with it."
