Sunil’s PKL experience makes him a fine leader: BC Ramesh

India kabaddi head coach BC Ramesh, who was part of India's gold-medal-winning teams at the 1998 Bangkok and 2002 Busan Asian Games, believes the experienced Sunil Kumar is the right man to lead the side in Japan.

Sunil has led Gujarat Giants, Jaipur Pink Panthers and U Mumba across different editions of the Pro Kabaddi League. "Sunil deserves to lead India. He has been playing very well in the Pro Kabaddi League for many years and leads this team nicely. I'm confident he will lead from the front at the Asian Games," Ramesh told mid-day.

The coach is also satisfied with his team's month-long preparatory camp in Ballari. "It was a very good camp where we did a lot of quality practice and fitness work. All those players who did well in the PKL have been selected to represent the country. Our goal is to win gold. Before heading to Japan, we will have the next 10-day camp starting on September 5," said Ramesh.

Speaking about India's competitors in Japan. Ramesh said: "It's only Iran who will give us some fight. Pakistan and Bangladesh are also good, but Iran is at a different level," he said.
