Customs seize electronic goods worth Rs 97 lakh at Mumbai airport

The Air Intelligence Unit (AIU) of Mumbai Customs, well known for its gold seizures, on Saturday, seized its biggest haul of electronic goods in the last five years. The B batch is now in possession of electronic goods with an estimated market value of Rs 97 lakh.

This haul was recovered from five passengers travelling on Gulf Airways flight No GF-56, which landed in Mumbai on Saturday morning. They were Sandeep Ganpat Pimpare, Prakash Narayan Mane, Abdul Rashid Mohammed Hasan Ansari, Siraj Abdul Hai Ansari and Jakirhussain Sabdarhussain Khan. All of them were carrying the goods in their check-in baggage. Their passport numbers were H7525613, L6037610, L9755339, K9280365 and N1417643 respectively, and they had arrived from Dubai via Bahrain.


Goods that were seized included 2180 Bluetooth headsets, 89 GPS devices, 100 Sony smart watches, 12 mobile phones and 600 pen drives.

Indian currency amounting to 1.5 lakh was also seized from Pimpare. “We are investigating who they are working for,” said a Mumbai Customs official. All five passengers were arrested under section 104 of the Customs Act, 1962.
