A major portion of a slab of Victoria building located in Kamla Mills compound, Lower Parel, collapsed this morning killing two people and injuring six others.

"One of the victims has been identified as Amrita Shukla, 29. Six others have also sustained injuries and have been admitted to KEM Hospital," an official from civic disaster control room said.u00a0Eight persons were pulled from under the debris and sent to hospital, of whom two were declared dead, the sources said.
According to fire brigade officials, they received a call around 12.15 pm after which they have sent eight fire engines to the spot along with fire ambulances. By then, the local public and police had already reached the spot and were helping to remove the injured trapped beneath the debris.
According to fire officials, preliminary inquires have revealed that the building, a ground plus three storey structure, was under demolition when a portion of the slab caved in along with the workers who were working.
However, police officials refused to make any confirmation about the number of persons injured or dead. KEM hospital at Parel has been put on alert to arrange for emergency medical aide.
