The #MeToo movement recently shook India to the very core when prominent people from the entertainment industry were called out and accused in various cases. Several Bollywood actors and actresses, too, came out in support of the movement and also the women who started off the movement in India.

Recently, on Shekhar Gupta's talk show, Off The Cuff, Deepika was asked to share her two cents on many things, including the lynchings that have taken place across the country. The Padmaavat actress said, "I am someone who likes to work and express my perspectives where I can see change."

She further said, "Actors are brought on platforms and are expected to give our opinions on everything. Why are businessmen not asked these questions, why does someone not ask Ratan Tata what he thinks about Aarey, why are cricketers not asked about MeToo."

Deepika went on to ask why only film stars are subjected to these questions. She said, "So, sure, I don't think I'm in any kind of place to say if I would expose myself to a forum. You can ask me whatever question you want, but why subject it only to a film star?"

On the work front, Deepika Padukone will next be seen in two big projects - Chhapaak directed by Meghna Gulzar, and '83 directed by Kabir Khan. Speaking of Chhapaak, Deepika plays Laxmi Agarwal, an acid attack survivor. The film, which highlights the life of an acid attack survivor, puts forth the experiences of the victim and marks her as an inspiration for those who have faced a similar situation. It also stars Vikrant Massey and is all set to release on January 10, 2020.

'83, on the other hand, is the story of India's maiden cricket World Cup victory in 1983 under the captaincy of Kapil Dev. The film is slated to release on April 10, 2020.
