The Rabale MIDC police arrested three men for allegedly raping a 19-year-old woman who asked them for help to reach the nearest railway station, after she missed her stop. The woman had come to Mumbai a few months ago after marriage and could not alight at Ghatkopar railway station.

On February 18, the woman went further on Central Railway (CR) after she failed to get off at Ghatkopar railway station. She then got off at Mumbra station and spent the night on the platform. The next morning, she took a train and got off at Diva junction.

A police officer from Rabale police station said, "The woman did not understand what she should do and came across a beggar and asked for help to sell her golden nose stud. The beggar took her to Mahape, but they failed to sell the ornament till evening."

The woman then left the beggar and reached Sai Sagar Hotel. She asked an autorickshaw driver for directions to the nearest station and he said he would drop her. However, police said, he took her to secluded place, raped her and fled.

Police said the woman then came to a road and a two bike-borne men halted and asked if they could help. They told her they would take her to the railway station.

The officer said, "The two men took her to a secluded place near the railway station and raped her. The victim then took a train to Thane and went to Nashik." He said the family came to Mumbra railway police station, who then asked them to go to Rabale MIDC police station, where an offence was registered on February 23 against three unidentified persons.

"The woman told us about the description of the auto and the duo on the bike, which acted as leads. We have nabbed the trio and they have been remanded in police custody till February 29," Nitin Geete, senior inspector, said.
