A 36-year-old man was arrested for allegedly abducting, threatening and raping a woman at knife-point. A report in the Indian Express said that the man had raped the survivor in the pretext of marrying her in 2013.

According to the police, the man raped the woman when he was released on bail a few days ago. They said that the accused and the survivor were neighbours and they knew each other since 2012. The accused told the police that he was in a relationship with the woman. The woman told the police in a statement that the accused had raped her after he promised to marry her. When he later refused to marry her, she registered a complaint with the police after which he was arrested.

The accused managed to walk out on bail a few months ago after which he tried to meet the woman, but she kept on refusing to see him, the police said. The woman mentioned in her complaint that the man even tried to meet her near her house and asked her hand in marriage, but she refused. On October 25, when the man intercepted her way near her house, the woman protested and he forced her on his bike. He then took her to his house and raped her.

The woman in her complaint said that he brutally assaulted her and threatened to harm her if she raised an alarm. She further said that she managed to flee when he went to the bathroom. The police said that they have charged the man with rape, criminal intimidation, among other charges. The woman was sent for medical examination in which preliminary reports indicate that she was raped.

The police also said that after filing the FIR, teams were dispatched to various locations in eastern Mumbai to nab the accused after which he was caught near his house and has been sent to judicial custody. Further investigation is underway in which the police said that they are checking the CCTV footage of the spot where the accused abducted the woman.
