Just a few weeks before Christmas and New Year's eve, the Navi Mumbai Excise Department has decided to give on the spot drinking licences to tipplers while they are in bars.
All you will need for a drinking licence is proof of identification and a photograph that can be submitted to excise officials on the spot.

Confirming the same, a senior excise official from the Navi Mumbai division said, “We have decided to go to every bar and give on the spot drinking licences to tipplers. However, they will have to provide us with the required proof. During this festive season, many people go to bars and drink alcohol without a licence. Hence, to curb this practice, we have initiated this.”

Under the Bombay Prohibition Act, anybody who wants to drink or possess liquor needs to have a drinking permit.
“It is a good initiative that the Excise department is letting us obtain licences at bars itself. We hope the same decision is taken across the state,” said Mayur Malgaonkar, a resident of Sion.
Ravi Malhotra, a marketing executive said, “We don’t get time to go to individual offices to obtain a licence. If this service is made easy, nobody will have an excuse to drink without a permit.”
Liquor laws in state
