Madrid: Former Galactico Roberto Carlos yesterday said that Real Madrid would never get away with a trick penalty like the one executed by Barcelona's Lionel Messi and Luis Suarez against Celta Vigo in a la Liga match on Sunday.

The Argentine passed his penalty to allow Luis Suarez to score, but this move has been slammed by the former Blancos left-back. "Real Madrid would have been heavily criticised for attempting Lionel Messi's trick penalty," felt Roberto Carlos.

The Barcelona star's decision to roll his spot-kick sideways to allow Suarez to complete his hat-trick in a 6-1 rout of Celta Vigo has triggered significant debate.

Both Celta boss Eduardo Berizzo and Barca coach Luis Enrique defended Messi from accusations of disrespect for his opponents, though some players from across Europe have criticised it.

Former Madrid full-back Carlos has little doubt that such a penalty by Madrid  would have been condemned. "If we did that Messi penalty at the Bernabeu, it's a lack of respect," he told Cadena SER's El Larguero.
