Retd army officer riding pillion killed in accident

A retired Air Force officer died on the spot and his colleague was injured after a speeding truck rammed their two-wheeler from behind at Wiekfield Chowk yesterday.

The truck driver, according to police, was driving in inebriated condition when the accident took place.u00a0The deceased, who was riding pillion, has been identified as Premchand Ramavtar Pasi (67), a resident of Ashok Nagar in Kharadi, while the injured rider was identified as retired Air Force officer Suvarna Singh Uppal (61), from Ashoknagar. He has been admitted to Command Hospital where he is undergoing medical treatment.

According to the police, at 11.15 am, a speeding truck (MH 11 AAL 4460) first crashed into a Swift car and then hit the two-wheeler from behind. Pasi, who was wearing a helmet, got stuck to the lower part of the truck, which dragged him for over a half a kilometre. Police have arrested the driver Shahnawaz Sayyad (31), a resident of Satara District on charges of rash and negligent driving.u00a0
