Earlier, Rishi Kapoor took to Twitter to say that it's no one's business to comment on Saif and Kareena's decision to name their child. After Saif and Kareena announced their son's name as Taimur Ali Khan Pataudi, Twitterati went on to troll the couple and the baby's name. They questioned why they named their son after 'the Turco-Mongol conqueror Timur'.
Taimur (or Timur) translates to 'iron'. He was a 14th century Turco-Mongol ruler and Mughal dynasty founder, Babur's ancestor. His ambition was to rebuild the empire of Genghis Khan, who had died a century prior, and his conquests included large parts of Iraq, Iran, Afghanistan, Pakistan, Azerbaijan, Uzbekistan, Turkmenistan, Turkey, Syria, and Delhi.
A promoter of arts and literature, he is behind the stunning city of Samarkand in Uzbekistan. History books remember him as the plunderer who razed cities — possibly one reason why some Twitter users reacted to the news with expected fanaticism.
One Twitter user wrote, "Saif Ali Khan and Kareena Kapoor Khan naming their child Taimur is equivalent to Europeans naming their children Hitler." Another said, "Taimur was a looter who killed over one lakh Hindus in India. Arabic name to prove themselves real Muslim."
Rishi Kapoor, in a series of tweets, hit back at trolls and said:
Why are people so bothered what the parents want to name their child please?Mind your business,it's got nothing to do with you.Parents wish!— Rishi Kapoor (@chintskap) 21 December 2016
You mind your bloody business. Tumhare beta ka naam toh naheen rakha na? Who are you to comment? https://t.co/Sr3SOl65cU— Rishi Kapoor (@chintskap) 21 December 2016
Alexander and Sikandar were no saints. They are common names in the world. Apna kaam karo na tum. Tumko kya takleef hai? https://t.co/lT2i5U1Qod— Rishi Kapoor (@chintskap) 21 December 2016
You mind your fuckn business what my ancestors must be feeling. Apna kaam karo https://t.co/7SknPLTQ7q— Rishi Kapoor (@chintskap) 21 December 2016
A lot of people are going to be blocked if any more arguments happen. Just shut the FUCK UP— Rishi Kapoor (@chintskap) 21 December 2016
Earlier, former Jammu and Kashmir chief minister Omar Abdullah criticised those who made fun of Saif and Kareena for naming their newly-born son Taimur.
Abdullah said that it's their right to decide the name of their baby and the opinion of the rest doesn't matter.
At 7.30 am on December 20, Kareena Kapoor Khan and Saif Ali Khan welcomed their first child, a baby boy. Kareena opted for a natural delivery, supervised by legendary Mumbai gynaecologist, Dr Rustom Soonawala and his team at Breach Candy hospital. The doctor is also the one to have brought into the world Kareena, sister Karisma and cousin Ranbir.
Kareena and Saif got married on October 16, 2012. The actress has been in the news for the last nine months, setting an example for expectant mothers. She was working and making public appearances till as recently as two days ago when friends Amrita Arora Ladak, Malaika Arora and Karisma hosted an advance Christmas party for her. (See pic!)
