Wherever Cliff Richard performs, two eager faces are guaranteed to be in the audience singing along with every note.

Real shadows: Brenda Kirby, left, and Carol Barton

Brenda Kirby and Carol Barton have between them seen their number one star more than 8,000 times in the past 50 years.

They reckon that their obsession with the evergreen Sir Cliff, who turned 70 this year, has cost them a total of ufffd1 million (Rs 70 crore) in tickets, travel costs and memorabilia.

u00a0"I could have bought a massive house with the money I have spent, but in my opinion it was money well spent," said Kirby.

Friends for 12 yrs
The two fans became friends 12 years ago after continually meeting at Cliff concerts and were amazed to discover that they lived close to each other in Tuffley, Gloucestershire.

Since then they have camped out together for days at a time to buy tickets and travelled to shows throughout Europe.

The two women have even met Sir Cliff several times.u00a0But despite a devotion that some might judge just a little obsessive, they do in fact share their hearts with two other men -- their husbands.

Barton, a retired auxiliary nurse, said, "It's his voice that I like the most and it just keeps getting better as he gets older."

She is not, however, a fan of all his tracks. She just can't grow to love Congratulations and counts Ocean Deep his best. Kirby, a retired bank worker, likes all Cliff's songs.u00a0 The two insist they would hate for Sir Cliff to be uncomfortable because of their attention, are now planning their next outing.

They have spent another ufffd850 (Rs 58,500)u00a0 on six tickets each for his concerts with a swing band at the Royal Albert Hall in October.
