The last film starring him might have reached family audiences worldwide, but Aamir Khan's next production, Peepli Live starring Raghuvir Yadav, is for adults only.
It is learnt that the actor was given the option of making a few cuts and getting a 'U' rating for the film. The actor-producer was cool with the 'adults only' tag and refused any and all cuts.
Says a source from Aamir Khan Productions, "We have got an 'A' certificate with no cuts. Peepli Live is about farmer suicides and uses very authentic, colourful rustic language, the sort you get to hear in villages. To retain its essence, it was important no scene be cut. The language made the members of the censor board squirmy and they asked for cuts. However, Aamir was clear that none of the lines would be cut or the use of words diluted, and was given to take his film to only the 18-plus audience."
The film is the official entry to the Sundance Film Festival, and Khan didn't want the Censor Board to tamper with the material. The source adds, "Peepli Live has made an entry in the World Cinema Narrative category. It's the first Indian film to go to the festival, and making cuts for the Indian audience wouldn't have been fair."
Directed by debutant Anusha Rizvi, the film is a satire, a black comedy about rural life and set to release sometime this year.
