Bollywood actress and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MP from Himachal Pradesh's Mandi, Kangana Ranaut, met people affected by floods and landslides in the state on Thursday. During the meeting with the victims, she was seen expressing her distress over the financial losses faced by her restaurant in Manali.

Kangana talks to the victims

While interacting with the victims on site, she said, “Hum bhi yahi ke vaasi hain, aap humein hi nochne aayenge toh hum kaise kaam karenge aap ke liye? Shant ho jaiye pehle toh, aur yeh janiye mujh par kya beeti hogi. Mera bhi restaurant yahan hai, jisme kal sirf Rs 50 ka business hua hai. (We are also residents of this place. If you start attacking us, how are we supposed to work for you? First, calm down and try to understand what I’m going through. I also have a restaurant here, it made just Rs 50 in sales yesterday.)”

“Rs 15 lakh ke salary hai, Rs 50 ka business hua hai, meri dard bhi aap samjhiye. Mujhe aap aise attack mat kariye jaise Kangana Queen of England hai aur kuch kar nahi rahi hai. (I have to pay Rs 15 lakh in salaries, and there was just Rs 50 in sales. Please try to understand my pain as well. Don’t attack me as if Kangana is the Queen of England who’s doing nothing for you.),” she added.

Her reaction did not go well with the netzines, who expressed their disappointment. Many asked her to resign. One user in Hindi wrote, 'This is like the river, carrying its pain, goes to the sea, and the sea says, 'Where shall I go? Who will hear my pain?'"

Residents raise 'Go Back Kangana' slogans

Slogans of "Go back Kangana, you are late" filled the air on Thursday when the Bollywood actor and BJP MP from Mandi visited a rain-affected area in Himachal Pradesh's Manali. Videos of locals expressing their resentment against Kangana Ranaut's visit to Patlikuhal area of Manali in Himachal's Kullu district went viral on the internet. In the video, local people holding black flags and shouting slogans are seen near the carcade of the actor-politician.

Heated arguments were also witnessed when BJP leaders and others accompanying Kangana tried to pacify the residents, and police had to intervene to restore peace. For the unversed, heavy rains triggered landslides and flash floods at several places in Kullu and Manali on August 25 and August 26, with strong currents of the Beas River washing away a multi-storey hotel and four shops.
