Hrithik Roshan and Ranveer Singh

After the explosive success of Dhurandhar, several media reports emerged suggesting Ranveer Singh has decided to step away from Farhan Akhtar’s highly anticipated film Don 3. Although there has been no official confirmation about the same from the actor or the production team, newer reports claim that the makers have already started searching for a new lead.

Hrithik Roshan to replace Ranveer Singh in Don 3?

A recent Filmfare report suggests that the makers have been searching for a new lead for Don 3, and Hrithik Roshan has emerged as a strong contender. The report suggests that although the makers are keen to have the War 2 actor become the new face of the iconic franchise, discussions are still at a very early stage.

A source reportedly told Filmfare, “Following Ranveer’s exit, Hrithik has emerged as a strong contender for the role. While discussions are still at a very early stage, it will be interesting to see whether Hrithik ultimately comes on board." Notably, Hrithik had a cameo in Don 2 when Shah Rukh Khan’s character disguises himself as Hrithik’s character in one of the scenes.

According to the Filmfare report, the makers are mindful that the lead actor for Don 3 must be a well-established name, as the star will be stepping into the iconic shoes of Shah Rukh Khan and Amitabh Bachchan.

Ranveer reportedly moved on from the project following the massive success of Dhurandhar, citing creative differences. He is now allegedly shifting his focus toward Jai Mehta’s upcoming venture, Pralay.

Farhan Akhtar once shared that Hrithik Roshan was the first choice for Don

Interestingly, last year, Farhan Akhtar had revealed that Hrithik was initially the first choice for Don before Shah Rukh Khan was cast. During a conversation with Raj Shamani, Farhan Akhtar recalled, “Hrithik and I did Lakshya, and we had an incredible, wonderful time working together. So I reached out to Hrithik and said, ‘I’m thinking I’m going to remake Don.’ He said, ‘Sounds amazing, dude!’ I said, ‘Let me write it, and I’ll bring it to you.’ So he said, ‘Cool.’" However, he revealed that when he was writing the film, it was Shah Rukh Khan's face that popped into his head.

He added, “But I’d already given my word to Hrithik. So I called up Hrithik and told him, ‘I’m writing the film I spoke to you about. But the more I’m writing, I’m feeling I should reach out to Shah Rukh for this film. I’ll never forget, he said, ‘Farhan, you have to make your film, and in the best way possible. If you think he’s the guy, please go ahead and call him. Don’t worry about me.’ That is a very gracious thing."
