Screenwriter-lyricist Javed Akhtar turns 78 on January 17th. Here are some lesser known interesting facts about him.


-Javed Akhtar was born in Gwalior in the year 1945. Javed’s father Nisar Akhtar was a famous poet and mother Safia was an Urdu author and professor. His grand father Muzhtar Khairabadi was also a renowned poet.


-Akhtar is often called Jadoo. The nickname was given by his dad. The name originated from a phrase from the poem, 'Lamha lamha kisi jadu ka fasana hoga.'


-Akhtar co-wrote several films with Salman Khan's father Salim Khan, including the classic Sholay, Yaadon Ki Baaraat, Zanjeer, Deewaar Trishul, Kaala Patthar, Seeta Aur Geeta, Sholay and Mr India among others. 

-In 1999 Akhtar was awarded with the Padma Shri by the Government of India. He has won five National Film awards.

-Javed Akhtar’s first wife was Honey Irani, with whom he has two children, actor-producer and director Farhan Akhtar and producer-director Zoya Akhtar. He is currently married to famous actress Shabana Azmi.
