Neha Dhupia and Angad Bedi’s wedding ceremony came as a sweet surprise to everyone. Within months of tying the knot, the couple also announced that they were expecting their first child. Neha got pregnant shortly after the two started dating, and they decided to get married soon after. While she has faced questions about whether pregnancy was the only reason behind the wedding, Neha recently opened up about the experience.

Neha on getting pregnant before marriage

Speaking to The Hollywood Reporter India, Neha revealed that Soha Ali Khan and her actor-husband Kunal Kemmu were among the first to know about her pregnancy. “They were the first ones to get to know that we were pregnant. Also, because we were eating at a restaurant and I fainted on Kunal Kemmu! The next morning, we met again, and that’s when I told Soha that I was pregnant,” she recalled.

Neha and Soha have been close friends for years, which made it easier for the actress to share such personal news with a confidante. “You’re also like… not married, you’ve barely dated the guy. This information—no matter how unorthodox or orthodox you are—is just easier to share with your friends, especially friends who have just had a baby, as opposed to telling your parents. It’s a tough one to have,” she said.

Neha shared that their wedding was extremely private and arranged in a chaotic, last-minute manner. It was so sudden that Neha couldn’t even call her friend Soha to the wedding. “You’re always questioned—‘Are you together because this happened, or do you genuinely want to be together?’ It worked out well. There’s no other way I would want it,” she added.

Neha recalls Soha's marriage advice for her

Neha also recalled advice from Soha when she got married, “When I got married, Soha told me, ‘Remember, men have really fragile egos. So watch what you say.’”

In the same interview, Soha elaborated on the advice and said, “My mother told me that a woman should look after a man’s ego and a man should look after a woman’s emotions. If you're able to do that, you’ll have a long relationship. Of course, today, people may say women also have egos and men also have emotions—and that’s valid. But I think it was advice given with good intent. Marriages are challenging, and it’s comforting to have friends to lean on.”

Neha Dhupia and Angad Bedi celebrated their love story in a quietly elegant ceremony in Delhi on May 10, 2018—tying the knot in an intimate Anand Karaj at a gurudwara, with only close family and a handful of friends in attendance. In November of the same year, they welcomed their daughter, Mehr. They later welcomed their son, Guriq, in October 2021.
