Actor Shilpa Shirodkar recalls rumours of her death being circulated in the mid-90's which led to her parents calling her 25 times while she was shooting in Manali. Later, she realised it was producer Gulshan Kumar's idea to spread the news of her being shot dead for publicity.

Actor Shilpa Shirodkar has had her share of ups and downs in her career. After debuting in the 1989 film Bhrashtachar, where she played a blind girl, she gradually bagged roles and continued her struggle in the industry. However, while she was still struggling to make a mark, she recalls the false rumours of her death being circulated during the shoot of her 1995 film Raghu Veer.

During a recent interview with Pinkvilla, Shilpa recalled her parents getting worried by the death news while she was filming on the sets in Manali. The actor recalled the time when she was not aware of the speculation. Soon after the release of her film Bewafa Sanam, she says the rumours of her death began circulating, “I was in Kullu Manali. My dad was trying to call the hotel because we didn’t have mobile phones at that time. I was shooting with Suniel Shetty there. Everyone who was watching the shoot there kept thinking if this is Shilpa or someone else because they knew the news."

The Bigg Boss contestant added, “When I came back to the room, there were around 20-25 missed calls. My parents were worried, there was a headline in a newspaper that Shilpa Shirodkar was shot dead.” The actress further revealed that it was producer Gulshan Kumar’s idea to use the fake news of her death as a promotional technique.
“When he told me, I was like ‘okay’. Yes, thoda zyada hogaya. There was no PR activity or anything at that time. Kuch pata hi nahi tha na. I was the last one to know that something like this was going to happen. No one used to take permission at that time. The film worked well, so I wasn’t really angry,” the actor reveals.

On the work front, Shilpa Shirodkar will next be seen in the highly anticipated pan‑India supernatural thriller, Jatadhara. The film marks that marks her return to the silver screen after being away for several years. The film is a supernatural mystery thriller revolving around the enigmatic Anantha Padmanabha Swamy Temple and its hidden mystical lore.
It brings together suspense, intrigue, and mythological elements into an atmospheric narrative. The film will be headlined by Sudheer Babu, who is undergoing intense physical training for the role. Sonakshi Sinha will also be making her debut in a Telugu-Hindi bilingual project with the film, while sharing the screen with Shilpa for the first time.
