Thamma box office: Ayushmann Khurrana delivers his 5th 100 crore hit

Ayushmann Khurrana’s Thamma has entered the Rs 100-crore club, becoming his fifth film to do so, and further establishing him as a powerhouse of fresh, franchise-driven cinema

Bollywood star Ayushmann Khurrana’s first big Diwali release Thamma has entered the 100 crore club and the actor has now delivered five 100 crore hits with his brand of cinema that’s unique & quirky.  Thamma now stands at Rs 103.50 crore (India net box office,) while his other Rs 100 crore hits are Dream Girl (142.26 crore), Dream Girl 2 (104.90 crore), Badhaai Ho (137.61 crore) and Bala (116.81 crore). 

Ayushmann Khurrana has maximum franchises to his credit


With this feat, Ayushmann has also scripted history as the young actor who has started the maximum number of franchises in Bollywood. Ayushmann is known for having set up several franchises with unique, fresh content like Dream Girl, Badhaai Ho, Shubh Mangal Saavdhaan, Thamma and  Andhadhun whose ending promised a hugely awaited sequel. 



Ayushmann says, “Commercial success is huge validation for an actor. To have tasted success with my brand of cinema feels incredibly special because I truly love fresh and unique content. As an audience, I relate to this kind of content the most. So, to see people enjoy, endorse and recommend such cinema, is truly an incredible experience for an entertainer like me. I’m thrilled that so many of my films have become successful franchises. I’m truly fortunate for the love that people have showered on my films and my craft.”

Ayushmann on comparison with Captain America

During the AMA session, one fan asked Ayushmann Khurrana: “How do you feel being the Captain America of MHCU?" The Thamma star replied, “Mat kar lala. Nahi chahiye hume bahar ki validation (Don’t do this, we don’t need the outside validation). No comparison, this is our desi universe. So Thamma is Thamma."

Another fan asked how he feels about Thamma performing so well. The actor replied, “Yaar neend achhi aa rahi hai. Matlab pehle bhi aati thi, par ab aur bhi aa rahi hai. Thamma is very special. Meri pehli badi film hai Diwali par aayi hai. Pehle main Diwali par sirf filmein dekhta tha, ab dikha raha hu. Ek Chandigarh ke launde ka sapna pura hua hai. (I’m sleeping very well. I used to sleep well before too, but now even more. Thamma is very special. This is my first big film releasing on Diwali. Earlier, I only used to watch films on Diwali, now I’m starring in one. A boy from Chandigarh has fulfilled his dream)."
