Gauahar Khan, an actor and television personality, has opened up about her parenthood journey, sharing intensely personal stories as well as the emotional toll of pregnancy loss while working a hard schedule.
On Debina Bonnerjee's podcast, the 39-year-old, who is currently expecting her second child, discussed the hurdles she has experienced, including miscarriage and working in physically demanding professions.
Gauahar talks about miscarriage
Gauahar's third pregnancy, yet her journey to parenthood was not without pain. "I had a miscarriage before, and it took me at least 1 to 1.5 years to recover from that," she explained, exposing the emotional toll of losing her first child. She also discussed how this affected her desire to grow her family.
"By the time I gave birth to Zehaan, I was already 39, and if I wanted another child, it was now or never."
She emphasised the significance of timing and strength, stating, "I think this was the right time for something like this..." We knew we needed to start trying for a kid within a year.
Despite the heartbreak, Gauahar remained focused and resilient, especially in her career.
On working during her second pregnancy
The Fauji 2 actor discussed juggling professional and personal commitments, emphasising the physicality of her work. "I was working throughout my first pregnancy..." This time, I was exploding grenades while filming the end of Fauji 2 in Pune."
She praised her action directors for accommodating her illness while still keeping the shoot's integrity.
Her first miscarriage happened during filming action sequences for Shiksha Mandal: "Actually, I was pregnant with my first child…" Just a month later, I lost my child."
The link between pregnancy and her action-packed roles, she claims, has been strangely repeating. "It's a very strange thing that every time I am pregnant, I end up doing action roles and shooting difficult scenes," the actress said.
Gauahar's heartfelt revelations come at a time when discussions about family and professional responsibilities are gaining traction, particularly following Deepika Padukone's reported departure from Spirit for similar reasons.
Earlier, in her own podcast, Gauahar had shared how it was difficult for her to come out of the sorrow that she experienced on losing her first child.
