When Sally, an adventurous cat that lives on Mr Scott's farm, discovers that the tiger belongs to the cat family, she leaves for the jungle to meet her uncle, the tiger. Her friends the dog, cow and frog try to stop her but she is defiant and ignores them. Will she survive in the jungle? Can this journey make her realise who she is and where she truly belongs?
It's an endearing plot like this that model-turned-yoga instructor Shraddha Setalvad has woven into her beginner-level Yoga DVDs for kids. Yoga Kids Vol 1: Discover Your Sally and Yoga Kids Vol 2: Rainbow of Hope distributed by Shemaroo Entertainment take western plot-based stories to make kids aged three to twelve practice asanas and help connect their mind to their body early on.
"While the first volume helps a child know himself and develop his self-esteem, the second volume based on the story of Noah's Ark helps promote peach and goodwill," says Shraddha. "Yoga is a fantastic means of developing discipline and fitness, and this is an initiative to take yoga to kids across India." Though the plotlines remain rooted in western literature and mythology, Shraddha strikes a balance by introducing Sanskrit names of asanas and numericals. Special features include the chanting of Om and an introduction to the five elements. While the asanas are embedded within the storyline, a feature allows you to play only the asanas or just the storyline.
