The last time I heard of someone walking or standing over a person in the name of a massage was when I was seven years-old.
I was asked to balance over my mother's calves, and knead them gently to relieve her aching legs. What I had signed up for was slightly different; a grown woman balancing herself on my back while hanging on to ropes.
The dimly lit room with braided, thick ropes hanging from ceiling rods was ready for my experience. Next step: to lie flat on my stomach and cover myself with a towel.
The strokes are generally aimed in the direction of the lymph nodes and the heart, which is supposed to help drain the fluid build-up from muscles.
The tinkling sound of the bells attached to the ropes is meant to distract one from "negative thoughts" and help one focus on the massage and relaxation.
Blame it on my poor auditory senses or sticky pessimism, but I kept wincing when the pressure was unbearable and didn't really care to hear bells making sweet melody in the distance.
The massage hurt the most near my shoulder blades and back, and at one point I almost strangled myself.

With my chin on the bolster and Ratda's feet on my shoulder blades, I felt my throat being squeezed on the bolster. A few choking protests later, the guilty pillow was removed.
While someone standing on your pelvic bone looks freakishly suggestive, it proved the best part of the massage.
The massage ended with the gentle kneading of shoulders, arms, palms and fingers. And just as I was drifting off to sleep, the session was over. I went home, feeling strangely languid and sleepy, ready to take on the week ahead.
