Police has begun a probe after human remains were found in Palghar near Reti Bunder area in Naigaon East, an official told newswire PTI on Monday.


Naigaon police station senior inspector Ramesh Dhaygude said that a passerby alerted police about the skull and bones on Sunday.


“We have sent the human remains for forensic examination. We registered an accidental death case and have started a probe,” he added.


Meanwhile, police has arrested a 28-year-old man in connection with a series of chain-snatching incidents in Maharashtra's Palghar district, an official said on Monday.

The accused, Amit Nathu Shanvar, was apprehended last week from Talasari in Dahanu taluka, the official said.

A woman was allegedly robbed of jewellery worth Rs 95,000 on January 25, and following a probe, the police team zeroed in on Shanvar, senior inspector Pramod Badakh said.

The police recovered a motorcycle and stolen jewellery worth Rs 4.38 lakh from the accused, he said.

Shanvar was allegedly involved in chain-snatching incidents in the jurisdiction of Virar, Arnala Sagari, and Nalla Sopara police stations, the official said.

Cop found hanging in police quarters in Nagpur; suicide suspected

Meanwhile, a 35-year-old policeman was found hanging in his official quarters in Maharashtra's Nagpur city in a suspected case of suicide on Monday, an official said.

The body of sub-inspector Gopal Gole was found hanging from the ceiling fan at his official quarters in Police Line Takli around 2.30 pm, the official from Gittikhadan police station said.

As per a preliminary probe, it appears to be a case of suicide, he said.

Gole was attached to the Yashodhara Nagar police station. His wife had been away for 15 days, and she suspected something amiss when his phone went out of service for the last three days, the official said.

Family members sent two persons to check on Gole, and they found his body, he said, adding that no suicide note was recovered from the scene.

The Gittikhadan police have registered a case of accidental death, the official said. (With inputs from PTI)
