Octogenarian killed after being run over by BEST Bus in Mumbai's Mulund

According to the BEST Command & Control Centre (Traffic), the incident took place around 10:25 am when the bus from Mira Road to Mulund Depot was near P.K. Road at M.A. Chowk Junction

An 82-year-old woman died after being run over by a BEST bus at Panch Rasta Junction in Mulund West area of Mumbai on Wednesday morning, officials said.

According to the BEST Command & Control Centre (Traffic), the incident took place around 10:25 am when the Mateshwari Bus (Route C-61/41, Bus No. MH-01-EM-3879) from Mira Road to Mulund Depot was at the signal near P.K. Road, M.A. Chowk Junction.


As per the preliminary reports, the pedestrian, identified as Ushaben Jamnadas Kherani, was standing on the footpath when she apparently lost her balance and fell onto the road just as the signal turned green. The driver, unaware of the fall, started the bus, and the woman came under the left rear tyre, it said.



She was immediately taken to Agarwal Hospital in Mulund, where the doctors declared her dead during treatment at around 10:50 am.

The driver of the bus has been identified as Shailesh Sudhakar Wagh (26), and the conductor as Aniket Balaram Ambre (34), both attached to the Mulund Depot.

BEST officials, including Accident Officer, Enquiry Inspector, and Depot Manager are conducting an internal inquiry into the incident.

Police investigations are also underway to determine the exact circumstances of the accident, officials said.
