The Vakola Police have arrested two individuals in connection with the suicide of a 32-year-old man in Mumbai, who allegedly ended his life after being blackmailed and extorted for over Rs 2.44 crore.

According to police, the victim consumed poison at his residence on July 5 and left behind a three-page suicide note detailing the harassment he faced. He was rushed to a hospital but was declared dead before admission.

Based on the contents of the suicide note, Vakola Police arrested a 26-year-old man and a 22-year-old woman on Tuesday. The note alleged that since September 2024, the duo had been blackmailing the victim using obscene videos in their possession.

"The accused had even visited the victim’s home and issued threats. Using these threats, the male accused extorted Rs 2.44 crore (Rs 2,44,80,000), while the female accused took Rs 2.60 lakh (Rs 2,60,000)," said a police official.

The continuous harassment and psychological pressure allegedly drove the man to take his own life, police said.

Both accused have been booked under Sections 108, 308(2), 308(3), and 3(5) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). Further investigation is underway.
