Police have arrested three persons after seizing drugs valued at more than Rs 22 lakh following two raids in Maharashtra's Thane district, officials said on Monday, reported news agency PTI.

Acting on a tip-off, the police raided a room near the Valdhuni river under Khadakpada police station area in Kalyan on July 17 and seized 1.12 kilograms of ganja (cannabis) valued at Rs 25,000, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Zone-III, Kalyan) Atul Zende said in a release, reported PTI.

A man, identified as Ravi Shivaji Gavli (30), resident of Anupam Nagar, who was found in possession of the narcotic substance, was immediately taken into custody, the official said, reported PTI.

On July 18, the police carried out another raid at a location behind the APMC Market Road in Kalyan, where two individuals were allegedly attempting to sell banned narcotic substances.

"During the raid, our team seized 110 grams of MD (mephedrone), a synthetic drug, from the possession of the accused. The market value of the seized drug is estimated at Rs 22 lakh," Zende said, reported PTI.

The police arrested the two accused, identified as Mohammad Kaif Mansur Shaikh (24), resident of Kalyan, and Fardin Asif Sheikh (24), from Kongaon in Bhiwandi, the official said, reported PTI.

The Khadakpada and Bazarpeth police have registered FIRs against the accused under provisions of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, he said.

"We are now conducting further investigations to trace the supply chain - from where the drugs were procured and to whom they were being sold," the official said.

Two arrested in Pune with drugs worth Rs 2.87 lakh

In another case, the anti-narcotic cell of Pune police, along with the Military Intelligence (MI) unit of the Army's Southern Command, has arrested two men with narcotic substances worth more than Rs 2.87 lakh, an official said on July 19.

Acting on a tip-off from the MI unit, a joint team placed Abhinav Pradeep Gupta (22), a resident of Shivane, and Irshad Iftikar Sheikh (27), a resident of Kondhwa, under surveillance for suspected involvement in drug trafficking, reported PTI.

The duo were intercepted in Kondhwa on the evening of July 18, and 10.21 gm of MD or mephedrone valued at Rs 2.04 lakh, 8.32 gm of OG (high-grade variety of marijuana) worth Rs 83,000 and some ganja were recovered from their possession, the police official said.

The team also seized an SUV and three mobile phones.

A case was registered at Kondhwa Police Station under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, reported PTI.

Further investigation is underway to trace the source of the drugs and ascertain if the accused are linked to a larger drug network, the official said.
