Student (15) stabs girl for spreading rumours about him

A petty misunderstanding between two Std X students of Swami Vivekanand High School in Chembur led to a 15-year-old boy stabbing his female classmate in the back with a compass on Tuesday.

Rajiv Sethi is said to have hurt Kavita Shah (both names changed), as he believed she was spreading rumours about him.u00a0

The incident took place during school hours when their teacher decided to give a free period. While Rajiv decided to go to the playground, Kavita headed to the library with two friends.

Stabbed twice

According to sources, when Shah was walking towards the classroom to fetch her calendar before going to go the library, Sethi ran up to her from behind and stabbed her twice.

Shah was taken to the first aid room, as she had started bleeding.

"Sethi came laughing to the principal's office. He also tried to convince the girl not to complain. His parents were called and he was suspended. Luckily, the girl's injury was not very severe," said the source.

However, downplaying the fact that Sethi stabbed Shah, Bina Gole, principal of the school, said, "The class teacher told me Sethi didn't stab the girl, but poked her hand by mistake.

We called his parents because we don't want complaints from either set of parents." Sethi's father said, "It was an accident. He didn't do it deliberately." The girl's family confirmed the incident, but refused to comment.

Dr Fabian Almeida, a child psychiatrist, believes the boy needs counselling.

"Suspension was disciplinary action enough, but the boy also needs counselling so that he can share his problems and so does the girl with an assurance of her safety.

This boy's rage must be addressed before it gets out of hand."

Shah's mother Sangeeta said, "We are contemplating making a police complaint against the boy."
