Around 12 school buses out of 120 buses were outdated of Santosh Shetty who owns the school bus that was carrying Delhi Public School (DPS) children and that met with a bus carrying Seventh Day Adventist High School (SDAHS) kids from at Sanpada at Karve junction. The incident took place at Nerul on Friday morning at 7.30am. According to the road and transport commissioner the bus of DPS was 13 years old and was unfit and the owner was also sent a notice by the department. Shetty also is the local standing Congress corporator for Nerul.

The DPS bus was coming speeding towards the Nerul side from Vashi, whereas SDAHS was taking a U-turn from Karve junction when the accident happened. DPS dashed on SDAHS according to the traffic cops at NRI police station at Belapur

The driver of Vilas Pawar (64), of the school bus of SDAHS was left by the NRI police for not being into fault, but driver Munna Lal Pashi (41), of DPS bus have been arrested.

Rafiq Bagwan, senior inspector of NRI police station, Belapur, said, "We have arrested Pashi under sections of Rash driving or riding on a public way (section 279), Causing hurt by act endangering life or personal safety of others (section 337), Mischief causing damage to the amount of fifty rupees (427), Driving dangerously (MV act 184). He will be produced in the Vashi court tomorrow."

Bharat Kalaskar, Deputy Regional Transport Officer of Navi Mumbai RTO, Navi Mumbai, said, "We already gave notice to Santosh Shetty owner of the school buses about his same school bus that met with an accident not being fit to driven on the road. But it was again found this time and we are going to scrap it now canceling its registration. The bus is 13 year old and cannot be run on the road."

Pratibha Garg, mother of Rohit (9) class V student from DPS said, "My son was sitting in front and near the driver where the bus has damaged more. Because of that he got more injuries on his body. He has to operate on his hand where his right hand skin was removed and his left shoulder got fractured."

Santosh Shetty, Corporator of Nerul, Congress, said, "It was an unfortunateu00a0 incident. DPS school driver was driving normally when the SDAHS suddenly took a turn and that is how the buses were collide. It does not matters that bus is old or new, accidents can happen with old as well as new vehicles."
