BJP livid over Congress general secretary's statement hinting at Sangh's hand in Wednesday's blast

Stating that Congress General Secretary Digvijay Singh is maligning Indian politics, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) strongly condemned his remarks on Saturday that hinted at the involvement of radical Hindu right wing organisation Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) in Wednesday's serial blasts in Mumbai.

The opposition party at the Centre demanded an apology from Congress President Sonia Gandhi.

"Congress chief Sonia Gandhi and party General Secretary Rahul Gandhi should apologise to the country over today's remark made by Digvijay Singh, which is very objectionable regarding militancy," said BJP spokesperson Syed Shahnawaz Hussain.

"Bharatiya Janata Party strongly criticises his statement and we expect that Congress chief herself would call the press and apologise on behalf of Digvijay Singh's remarks. As he is the member of Rahul Gandhi's core team, we believe that the views of Rahul Gandhi are being voiced by Digvijay Singh," Hussain added.

Meanwhile, senior BJP leader Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi indulged in some political mudslinging and said that the spirit of Osama bin Laden has overpowered Singh.

"I would suggest the Congress party to take him (Digvijay Singh) to the bank of Arab Sagar (Arabian Sea) and carry out some traditional treatment to dispel the notorious spirit of Osama bin Laden residing in his body, for the welfare of the country," said Naqvi.

He also suggested that a close association existed between Congress leaders and militant outfits, illustrated by the militant-friendly statements made by their senior leaders.

"It clearly shows that somewhere down the line, Digvijay Singh and the Congress party are acting as the mouthpiece of ISI and militants," Naqvi added.

Speaking to media persons in New Delhi on Saturday, Singh, "I have said that I will not rule out anything. Let the investigative agencies inquire about it. Yes, if they want evidence about Sangh's involvement in terrorist activities, I have got evidence, but not in this case. I have already said on my part that I will not rule out anything."
