Memon Bank snubs closure reports

The officials of the Memon Co-operative Bank Ltd on Tuesday rubbished rumours doing the rounds about the closure of the bank.

Imran A Furniturewala, chairman, Memon Co-op Bank Ltd told to MiD DAY, "there is no truth in the buzz about the RBI canceling our licence. The situation is under control and we are paying our customers who want their money back. We are a 43-year-old bank with 14 branches across the city.

We had a similar situation in 2004. During that time also we paid back all those who wanted their money back. Our credibility increased and so did our customer base after all said about us were proven wrong."u00a0u00a0u00a0u00a0u00a0u00a0u00a0u00a0u00a0u00a0u00a0u00a0u00a0u00a0

A customer of the bank since 40 years, Umrethwala Vora (66) said, "I have full faith in the Memon bank. I believe that the bank will not pull down the shutters."

Resounding the same faith in the bank, Ladhiya Ahmed (57), a cloth merchant said, "I have been the customer of the bank since 35 years. I have a current account which had Rs 3.5 lakh this morning and I just deposited another Rs 4 lakh. I completely trust the bank."
