Maharashtra Transport Minister and Chairman of the Maharashtra State Road Transport Corporation (MSRTC), Pratap Sarnaik, on Sunday issued a strict advisory to the officials, directing them to immediately expedite the tender process to induct 8,000 new buses into the ST fleet by the end of 2026. The Maharashtra Transport Minister further stated that any delay in the process will invite strict action, with concerned officers being held personally accountable. While speaking at a high-level review meeting on the utilisation of MSRTC’s budgetary funds for the financial year 2025–26, Sarnaik also pointed out various developments in Maharashtra’s transportation. The meeting was attended by Vice Chairman and Managing Director Dr Madhav Kusekar, Girish Deshmukh, and senior officials from concerned departments. Expressing strong displeasure over the slow pace of work, Pratap Sarnaik also pointed out that although the state government has allocated Rs 2,460 crore to MSRTC in the 2025–26 budget, nearly Rs 1,600 crore is likely to remain unspent with just three months left in the financial year. Terming this a “very serious matter”, Minister Pratap Sarnaik also expressed that such lapses reflect poor planning and administrative inefficiency. The minister further stressed that the funds originate from taxpayers’ money and must be utilised for improving basic passenger amenities, including the procurement of new buses and the construction, repair, and renovation of bus stations. However, Pratap Sarnaik also noted that tender processes related to bus purchases and infrastructure works have been stalled for nearly nine months, leading to underutilisation of funds. Sarnaik directs officials for maximum utilisation of funds Holding the concerned departments responsible, Sarnaik directed officials to ensure maximum expenditure of available funds within the remaining three months and to immediately complete all pending tendering and administrative procedures. He specifically emphasised fast-tracking projects related to new buses, bus stations, and passenger facilities such as restrooms. The Maharashtra Transport Minister also reiterated that the modernisation of MSRTC would be carried out at a rapid pace, with passenger convenience as the top priority. He also called upon the administration to act responsibly and with urgency to strengthen the public transport system and restore public confidence in the state-run bus service.

Fight directly with BJP, Shinde's Sena: NCP's Nawab Malik on BMC polls Senior Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) leader Nawab Malik has stated that his party’s main electoral rivals in the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) Election 2026 are the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the Shiv Sena led by Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde, ANI reported. Responding to allegations that the NCP is targeting minority votes, Malik clarified that the party is not contesting in several minority-dominated areas. “On most of the seats, our party is contesting against the BJP and the Shinde's Sena. We are not contesting elections in the minority areas. We are not contesting in Shivaji Nagar's three wards, where the minority is 90 per cent,” he told ANI. He added, “Our fight in this election is directly with the candidates of the BJP and Shiv Sena. When the results are out, it will be clear that our direct opponents are the Shinde faction and the BJP.” Earlier, Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis described the upcoming BMC elections as “life-changing” for Mumbai and its citizens. Addressing a gathering at the NSCI Dome in Worli, he criticised opposition parties, saying that the Mahayuti alliance will “teach a lesson” to those who focus solely on self-interest. “We launched our BMC election campaign by breaking a coconut. This election will be a life-changing one for the people of Mumbai and for Mumbai itself. We have to teach a lesson to those who only care about their self-interest,” Fadnavis said. He further accused opposition parties of prioritising personal and political gains over public welfare. “There are people who only care about their own self-interest. These people (opposition) are all talk and no action, but now the public will elect those who fulfil their promises, that is, the Mahayuti alliance,” he added. Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde expressed confidence that the Mahayuti alliance will secure a decisive victory in the BMC polls. (With ANI inputs)
05 January,2026 03:36 PM IST | MumbaiWestern Railway (WR) has announced a 30-day block on Mumbai's Kandivali–Borivali section to carry out the work related to the construction of the 6th railway line. The block, which began on the night of December 20/21, 2025, will continue until January 18, 2026, affecting both suburban and long-distance train services. According to Vineet Abhishek, chief public relations officer of WR, a major block will be implemented during the night of January 6/7, 2026, for the insertion of Point No 103 on the UP Fast Line at Kandivali. Accordingly, the UP Fast Line will remain blocked from midnight to 5.30 am, while the DOWN Fast Line will be blocked from 1 am to 4.30 am. As a result of these blocks and the suspension of the 5th line, several suburban services will be cancelled, and certain Mail/Express trains will face regulation en route. WR has appealed to commuters to plan their travel accordingly and stay updated through official announcements and exercise patience during the construction period. Detailed lists of affected trains Pic/ Western Railway Faster trains, new halts: Western Railway rolls out timetable to ease Mumbai travel Earlier, WR's new timetable for long-distance Mail, Express, and MEMU (Mainline Electric Multiple Unit)/DEMU (Diesel Electric Multiple Unit) trains came into effect on Thursday, January 1, 2026, marking a transformative moment for Mumbai’s railway infrastructure and connectivity. The changes reflect a comprehensive approach to addressing the metropolis’s growing transportation needs while significantly improving punctuality and passenger convenience. The Mumbai Central Division has emerged as a major beneficiary of these reforms, with substantial improvements across multiple operational parameters. The division has successfully accelerated 29 trains, collectively saving passengers 157 minutes every day. This acceleration is split between eight departing trains, saving 72 minutes, and 21 arriving trains, saving 85 minutes, demonstrating a concerted effort to optimise travel times in both directions. Terminal changes at Mumbai Central and Bandra Terminus reflect pragmatic infrastructure management. Due to platform blocking for construction work, trains 12925/12926 and 12903/12904 have been rerouted from Mumbai Central to Bandra Terminus. Similarly, train 22209/22210 now terminates at Nizamuddin instead of New Delhi, streamlining operations. Officials said these adjustments, while necessitated by infrastructure development, have been implemented with minimal disruption to passengers.
05 January,2026 03:01 PM IST | Mumbai | mid-day online correspondentShiv Sena leader Shaina NC sharply criticised Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Aaditya Thackeray, alleging that he holds “regressive thoughts”. Speaking to ANI, Shaina NC said, "Aaditya Thackeray inducted Rashid Mamu. Aaditya Thackeray joined Umar Khalid at the Gateway protest. They are plotting to turn Mumbai into Mamdani, but we will never let that happen. We are here for progressive politics. They are here for regressive thoughts and comments." Meanwhile, Thackeray hit back at the Mahayuti Government in a post on X on Sunday, alleging attempts to “falsely steal credit” for the Mumbai Coastal Road project and the installation of a statue of Shiv Sena founder Bal Thackeray. In his post, Thackeray said, "Looking at these shameless ones, you realise how much of a fraud someone can be. Just like they're falsely trying to steal credit for the Coastal Road, today they've put up a hoarding claiming that the revered Hindu heart-emperor Balasaheb Thackeray's statue was also installed by these frauds." He further stated, "The location of the statue, its design, these were decided by Uddhavsaheb, it was installed by Uddhavsaheb, and even the fee was paid by Uddhavsaheb!" Continuing his attack, Thackeray added, "But a thief is a thief. They can never go straight. In 'Mindhechya' mirror, do they even see their own face, or is that stolen too?"Aaditya Thackeray's remarks were aimed at the ruling Mahayuti government amid ongoing political sparring between the rival Shiv Sena factions in Maharashtra, reported ANI. 05 January,2026 02:35 PM IST | Mumbai | mid-day online correspondentThe school education department’s ‘Positive Discipline’ campaign, aimed at safeguarding students’ mental health, ensuring their safety, and strengthening teacher–student relationships, has seen wide implementation across Maharashtra. Conceived and guided by School Education Minister Dadaji Bhuse, the initiative has reached 1,35,339 teachers through 3,700 education conferences organised across the state. The campaign was launched against the backdrop of recent incidents of corporal punishment reported in some schools, highlighting the need for a more empathetic and constructive approach to discipline and classroom management. Officials said the initiative seeks to promote healthier interactions between teachers and students while discouraging punitive practices. Under the campaign, teachers were introduced to the concept of positive discipline, a science-based approach that emphasises dialogue, understanding students’ challenges, and counselling to instil responsibility, rather than using fear or punishment as tools for maintaining discipline. The programme was rolled out in a phased and systematic manner. In the initial phase, principals of District Institutes of Education and Training (DIETs) and primary and secondary education officers were sensitised. The message was then carried to the grassroots through district- and village-level education conferences, supported by extensive outreach through mass media. Speaking on the success of the campaign, School Education Minister Dadaji Bhuse said that students’ mental health and safety remain the government’s top priorities. He stressed that schools must remain fear-free spaces where teachers engage with students through dialogue and understanding rather than physical or mental punishment. Bhuse added that the positive response from teachers would help foster a more cooperative and joyful learning environment across schools. State to boost school safety with CCTV installation: Minister Minister Dadaji Bhuse Earlier in December, State School Education Minister Dadaji Bhuse highlighted that the government is installing CCTV cameras and providing other necessary safety infrastructure to strengthen safety and security in schools across the state. While filing a written reply to a question raised by NCP legislator Sulabha Khodke during the Maharashtra Winter Assembly Session, Bhuse said, “Following directions from the High Court, a Government Resolution (GR) was issued on May 13 mandating the installation of CCTV cameras to ensure student security in all schools.” The decision to install CCTV cameras will cover schools of all mediums and management types. The GR also directs the implementation of comprehensive safety guidelines. The government further confirmed that a major factor contributing to inadequate school safety is the lack of school safety committees, complaint boxes, and first-aid facilities in many institutions. Bhuse also highlighted that a total of 60,049 government schools run by local self-governing bodies and 29,049 private schools in the state have installed CCTV cameras. Moreover, 45,677 teachers and non-teaching staff in the state have been registered in the Teachers-Staff Database. “Nearly 4,888 schools have registered under the School Portal. About 103,665 School Safety Committees and 103,703 Parent-Teacher Associations have been formed. In addition, 103,703 schools have confirmed awareness and compliance regarding the POCSO Act and child protection guidelines,” the minister added.
05 January,2026 02:14 PM IST | Mumbai | mid-day online correspondentMaharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde is scheduled to undertake a public outreach and campaign tour in Thane on Monday, during which traffic movement along several key routes is expected to be affected. Authorities have issued route details and advised commuters to plan their travel in advance to avoid inconvenience, as large gatherings of party workers and residents are anticipated at multiple locations. According to the tour plan, the roadshow will commence at Raghoba Shankar Road, Chendani, Koliwada, with coordination handled by Pavan Kadam. It will then proceed to Bhavani Chowk at Tembhi Naka, where arrangements are being overseen by Sudhir Kokate. The next scheduled halts are Chandanwadi Naka, Siddheshwar Talao Shakha, coordinated by Rajesh More and Narayan Pawar. Subsequent engagements include Dnyaneshwar Nagar Shankar Mandir Chowk, with Ashok Vaiti and Anil Bhor managing arrangements, followed by the Lokmanya Nagar Depot area, coordinated by Dilip Bartakke. The roadshow will also pass through Bhimnagar and Vartak Nagar, where Rajendra Phatak is overseeing preparations. The final phase of the tour will cover Manpada and Manorama Nagar, both coordinated by Minakshi Shinde. The outreach programme is expected to focus on direct interaction with local residents, strengthening party organisation at the grassroots level, and highlighting regional development issues. Fadnavis–Shinde target Thackeray camp, pitch development agenda at joint rally Earlier last week, with the battle for control of the Mumbai civic body intensifying ahead of the BMC Election 2026, the ruling Mahayuti alliance launched a sharp political attack on its rivals while projecting development and governance as its core agenda. Addressing a joint rally of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the Eknath Shinde-led Shiv Sena at the NSCI Dome in Worli, Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis described the BMC elections as a contest to change Mumbai’s image and improve the lives of its citizens. Fadnavis said the Mahayuti was a coalition that had delivered on its promises, unlike others who, he claimed, relied only on empty rhetoric—a veiled reference to the Shiv Sena (UBT). “Vote us to power in the BMC and see the difference we make to the city,” the Chief Minister urged. Fadnavis also used the rally to counter claims made by the Thackeray cousins over the Marathi identity of Mumbai’s leadership. “Mumbai’s mayor will be Marathi only,” he said.
05 January,2026 01:21 PM IST | Thane | mid-day online correspondentAries March 21 - April 20 A good year in almost all aspects, as long as enough thought goes into making the right decisions, not based on emotions, but on feasibility. When physical health is priority, that automatically takes care of mental health, too, since the most basic, food, exercise and sleep are taken care of as a daily routine. Love continues to be mutually emotionally close, so do everything to maintain this close bond, not doing anything frivolous to endanger it. Business/ career is in a fast-moving karmic cycle in January, February and March when there is more new work coming in than can be handled comfortably. Stay away from ego-based issues with a colleague. Networking regularly brings positive results. Physical and mental healthPhysical health is good since you tend to be careful about diet (most times), exercise as advised, but you could do with more sleep. There’s a tendency to sacrifice sleep at the altar of socialising. When the brain doesn’t get the required rest then mental health suffers automatically, especially when dealing with added stress. Love and relationshipsHaving found true love; it’s worth doing all you can to maintain this level of understanding and intimacy. Don’t risk even a mild flirtation as it won’t be tolerated by your spouse/ partner. Singles meet someone new after April, with friendship blooming almost immediately. Ideally, just get to know each other as friends first, taking it maturely as it evolves. Finance and careerIt’s important to continue networking on a regular basis since this helps drawing in more business for the company (whether employed or self-employed). What you have to be extra careful about is choosing the right clients, those who agree to your terms and conditions (mostly), not holding up payments. The first three months of the year are excellent for signing new clients, but this gradually settles down to a more normal pattern of business coming in. Avoid getting into a one-upmanship routine with a colleague. Cosmic tipTrust cautiously; but when you do, then make it total. Choose words with care. This is important especially when there are too many conflicting thoughts circling around in the mind. Taurus April 21 - May 20 A good year moves with life falling into place in a completely different (something more positive) way. Taureans are by and large sturdy people, having been blessed with good health, which they learn not to take for granted at different points in life. Dealing with leg pain is something that can be minimised according to what the doctor advises. Mental health is fine. Love finds singles (suddenly a surprise). Love and relationships thrive, especially with the spouse/ partner, since they believe in discussing issues as they appear. Finance and career pass through an auspicious time with an increase in income/ profits. Although January and February are slow, but circumstances make up from March. Physical and mental healthThough Taureans love their food, but most of them have realised that overdoing anything causes problems for them finally; some just visualise food and put on pounds (so they say!). 2026 is a year of carefully and selectively consuming nutritious home cooked meals. Some may deal with leg pain or pins and needles in the legs. Don’t self-medicate. Mental health is good, since Taureans are made of unyielding habits and mindsets. Love and relationshipsThe relationship with your spouse/partner continues to be good since you both follow a simple solution; all and every issue is to be faced immediately and discussed with love and understanding, not bringing up the past in today’s issue. Singles find love unexpectedly when not seeking it (they tend to be content with their own company). Except for June, July and August, the rest of the months are auspicious for meeting new people. Finance and career 2026 is positive for an increase in finance. Positive months are March, April, May, August to December. Though there are delays in the first two months of the year, but this is the plan of cosmic energies. Career/ business follows the same pattern as mentioned for increased income. New business comes in regularly, with most negotiations bringing quick results. Travel for business negotiations increases between June and December. Cosmic tipDon’t discuss issues (if any) with all and sundry. Speak, if you must, only with genuine people who care. Gemini May 21 - June 21 The year 2026 promises better health if you take good care about diet and sleep. Mental health remains good provided you don’t discuss every small issue with a news update to all friends and family. Singles meet several new people, with there being mutual attraction with one person. The relationship with spouse/partner is loving and true, but try and not to overdiscuss the past. More than several months are auspicious for finance and business. Some have a raise in salary/ promotion. Don’t waste time thinking about a project/assignment that had to be let go after negotiations. Some are asked to set up a small branch office. Physical and mental healthThere may be a tendency towards developing coughs and colds, especially at the beginning of the year and during monsoon. Cutting down on spices and deep fried foods helps energy levels increase, with sleep patterns improving. Keep mental health strong by not expending energy to smaller issues which are a part of everyone’s life. Just deal with them immediately, not discussing them endlessly as this increases negative energy. Love and relationships2026 is a sociable year for singles where they make several new contacts out of which one becomes an extra special friend. The friendship continues, when suddenly both realise friendship has turned into love. The relationship with your spouse/partner is good. The only thing that tends to annoy the spouse/ partner is your compulsive discussions about love within the relationship, ripping every word and action till completely satisfied. Finance and careerFinancially positive months, personally and for the company/ business are January, February, May, June, September and November. Those in a family business can expect increased payment from June onwards. For employed Geminis, September onwards is positive for an increase in salary/ a promotion, or both. A potential new client turns out to be a waste of time in March and April, when after such prolonged negotiations they decide not to hire the company for their work. September and December see increased travel for business negotiations. A small branch office may have to be set up by you. Cosmic tipChange something you do daily to bring about a transformation; whether it is paring down obsessive habits or maintaining a healthy diet, etc. Cancer June 22 - July 23 The year 2026 makes you think deeply, understanding each situation, responding from a space of love and caring. Taking regular care of physical health ensures positive energy levels and the ability to think clearly. Mental health should be nurtured with making enough time for yourself and family. Learning a de-stressing method that works proves invaluable. Singles enter a marriage ‘dasha’. Those in a relationship for at least two years may decide to wait a little before deciding on when to get married. The relationship with your spouse/ partner could become difficult with hasty answers and not enough thought. Physical and mental healthAs with everything in life, physical health needs to be taken care of regularly; which means having less late nights, getting enough nightly sleep, eating home cooked nutritious food and exercising as advised. Keep the liver healthy by having a talk with your doctor, following their advice. Keep mental health strong by staying away from stressful situations, particularly if relationship based. Love and relationshipsSingles enter a marriage ‘dasha’, with several proposals received by extended family. Those already in a relationship of at least two years may maintain the status quo for another year. The relationship with your spouse/ partner has to be based on complete trust and compassion, not getting into ego-based arguments that go nowhere, corroding what, at a basic level, is an excellent relationship. Finance and careerIt’s a good year for those who earn overtime, but not so good for those who don’t, as working long hours will be the norm. Those expecting a raise in salary finally get it, but not in the month promised. The year supports new beginnings, particularly if planning a new venture in January, May or October. Beginning a new job may be stressful initially while you learn how the organization functions. Family may be concerned (out of love) for long working hours. Cosmic tipDon’t react; respond. Think what has been communicated, not making answers ego-based or defensive. This year is ideal for introspection. Leo July 24 – Aug 23 The year 2026 requires practical thought processes, not getting side-tracked into emotional thinking, to keep mental and physical health strong. In December, Leos are vulnerable to emotionally sensitive thoughts which affect the digestive system. Singles must know when to pursue the person of their dreams and when to back off if there’s no reciprocation. The relationship with your spouse/ partner continues to be good, since your personality is so irresistible and loving (guard against being overly possessive). Goddess Laxmi favours Leos with abundance; but use it wisely, maintaining a workable balance between income, making regular savings and expenses. New and interesting work comes in regularly during 2026. Physical and mental healthLeos are able to bounce back quickly from an issue that causes stress and may affect mental health, but doesn’t. Several situations come up during the year that are handled promptly, keeping a calm and happy mind. Physical health is usually good, except for digestive issues, particularly in January, March, August, September and December. In December, it’s more of an emotional dilemma that affects digestion. Love and relationshipsBeing lucky in love is karma, as well as your loving and caring personality that attracts the right spouse/ partner. Singles may be unable to gauge the person’s feelings and may decide to mentally let go due to confusing signals sent your way. It’s the backing off and going your own way that pulls love towards you. January, April, May, July August and December are very auspicious for new relationships. Attachment with your spouse/ partner is as strong as ever, but keep possessiveness to a manageable degree. Two holidays are eagerly looked forward to. Finance and careerGoddess Laxmi favours Leos. But that isn’t enough. Dealing wisely with finances is equally essential to multiply what there is. Business/ career are in a good space with regular increase in earnings. Unexpected expenses in April, May and November are dealt without a dent made in savings. There’s steady influx of new work coming in whether employed or self-employed. Cosmic tipRemember, cosmic powers have your back always, not allowing anyone or any circumstances to create major problems. Virgo Aug 24 - Sept 23 The year 2026 involves introspection, knowing when to pursue situations and when to let go. Physical health gradually improves as you drink enough water; exercise regularly and get proper nightly sleep. Mental health is good, as you’ve been blessed with caring family to whom unburdening yourself is like therapy. Singles meet someone new, but this also comes with its own issues. Those in a relationship of more than three years live through testing times, hoping the relationship steers into calmer waters. Married Virgos should be willing to let go of unimportant issues, since the most crucial point is the love between you both. 2026 is a good year for employed and self-employed Virgos. Those wanting to be self-employed let go of this idea, as work has so much more to offer. Those looking for a job can apply between January and June, being an excellent time for new beginnings. Physical and mental healthThere’s gradual improvement in physical health since there’s more awareness about what suits your sensitive digestive system. It’s important to make daily decisions, not overdoing any one food group and completely cutting out others. Be careful about what’s eaten in July, August and November. Having been blessed by God and your karmas to have a strong mind; you’ve successfully coped with emotional ups and downs successfully. Love and relationshipsBeing introduced to someone new in January begins a whole new chapter in romance and also slight confusion about whether you are interested in living overseas at some point in life. Those in a relationship of more than three years must exercise patience, being willing to let go of the situation, or handle it with dialogue. Be especially cautious in April, July, October and November, when frayed tempers due to work related stress get the better of you. Virgos who are married should, ideally, have a placid mindset, facing the year with fortitude and a loving attitude. Finance and careerCareer/ business in 2026 has a lot to cheer about since work moves ahead as planned and new assignments flow in regularly. July is a month of slight delays, especially two projects being negotiated for over a month. Travel within the country and overseas is less, but that’s fine with you, too. Some want to be self-employed, but decide to just continue with the job. Cosmic tipBeing willing to see someone else’s point of view, even if there’s no agreement about it, goes a long way in maintaining diplomatic relations with people. Thinking before revealing what’s on your mind also helps. Libra Sept 24 - Oct 22 The Tarot advises being careful and conscious about mental and physical health. Prioritise carrying all required medicines when you travel. Keep mental health in mind when dealing with a full day of work. Some have met their karmic soulmate. If in a new relationship, then this could be a year of misunderstandings. Those in love could get married this year. Physical and mental healthPhysical health may be a little up and down as the year moves ahead. Remembering to carry all medicines when travelling is important, as some may visit places that are far away from major cities. Be extra careful in January 2026, May and June. Health improves from October. Keeping good mental health has to be consciously worked towards, especially if saddled with an enormous amount of work and a micromanaging boss. Learn how to bring down stress levels with a practice that works for you. Love and relationshipsSome Librans are lucky enough to meet or have already met their karmic soulmate. This year favours those in love and want to get married (auspicious months for getting married are January 2026, May, August and December). Though quite happy, you feel a little neglected when your spouse/ partner has to undertake work related trips, as apart from the morning call, there’s no other communication during the day (maybe a hurried call in the evening). June sees misunderstandings and almost ending the relationship if in a new liaison (luckily there’s a reconciliation). Those in a long-term relationship are happy and content with their spouse/ partner, not allowing someone else to spoil their bond. Finance and careerFinancially 2026 is a good year for receiving a raise in salary, a promotion, or both; some may receive an ample bonus. Positive months for this are January, April and November. The year begins on a positive note with two clients being signed in January, and several more as the year progresses. Career is good, but there may be unforeseen problems in February and March. Calm yourself, don’t get on the defensive, dealing with each issue as it emerges. This upsetting phase settles down soon. Both career and business have to be handled carefully and with immense patience to draw in happy and bountiful times. Cosmic tipDon’t overthink. You can’t control everything, so just let it be when not possible. Scorpio Oct 23 - Nov 22 In 2026, physical health can be good if there’s an awareness about certain situations. For example, staying away from people with coughs and colds, only eating food you know agrees with your system and keeping blood pressure under control. Mental health can be kept balanced by not thinking obsessively. A new relationship for Scorpios makes them feel like God’s special people. All goes well till their hyper possessive personality emerges. The relationship with their spouse/ partner is overall good. Self-employed Scorpios sign many new clients. Employed Scorpios can look forward to a raise in salary. There are career highs in the first quarter of the year and in the last quarter. Physical and mental healthPhysical health can be good the entire year through if Scorpios are careful about staying away from people with coughs and colds, especially in May and August. A digestion related issue in March, June and October, warrants being careful about what is eaten. Those with high blood pressure issues need to take care the entire year. Mental health can be stable if they stop thinking so obsessively about everything. Knowing when to let go is the magic solution. Love and relationshipsA Scorpio feels like the luckiest person on earth when someone they like reciprocates. They can be intensely magnetic when they feel they are not being judged, being accepted with unconditional love. All goes well till they reveal the extra possessive side of their personality. The relationship with their spouse/ partner has its highs and lows throughout the year. Be willing to discuss the issue when angry and upset at how you were treated (Scorpios can be hyper critical of how others treat them, but quite blind to their hurtful words). Finance and careerYour canny business sense of knowing exactly who will agree to sign up with the company helps ink new deals/ assignments/ projects. Employed Scorpios can look forward to a raise in salary after March or October. A difficult client exasperates, but you deal with this diplomatically. Career has highs in January, February, March, October, November and December. Travel appears to be slightly less, except in February, November and December. Cosmic tip Growth brings peace. Criticism brings unhappiness. Choose friends wisely. Your friends shape your future. Sagittarius Nov 23 - Dec 22 Being aware keeps you healthy both mentally and physically. Be careful while driving, or being driven by someone else to avoid a small accident. Coping mechanisms of mental health are better in 2026, as long as there’s awareness 24/7 about decisions being taken. A happy and stable relationship manifests if both are on the same page, especially about finance. Those in a relationship where family isn’t convinced of this being the right choice can think about having a conversation with them. Sagittarians having a business/ clients overseas make trips to those destinations often because work comes in regularly. Those offered a job overseas must think about pros and cons. Physical and mental healthIn 2026 it just depends how careful you are about your health. Be actively aware, making correct choices. For example, choose what you eat carefully when attending weddings, or where food is being mass cooked. In March be extra careful while driving. A water-borne disease in July/August may have you taking bed rest as advised. Mental health is better as long as you do not create undue stress for yourself. Love and relationshipsAs with everything in life, there’s a need to make efforts to keep relationships loving and communicative to live together harmoniously, even if most arguments revolve around finances. Those in a relationship where family approval is not 100% may need to have a couple of more discussions with them about this decision. July, October to December are auspicious months to initiate greater understanding with family. Singles beginning a relationship in the first half of 2026 must not rush into giving a commitment. Finance and careerThose with business or clients overseas reveal a good income comes in regularly and offen travel to those destinations where business/ clients reside. Sagittarians who are offered a job overseas (from March onwards) must be totally sure about the decision taken finally. Business/ career for those who reside in the country is overall promising, with clients being signed on a regular basis. A family business which has been going slow, but steady, increases pace in the second half of the year. Months for income increase are January, March, April, May, July, September and October. Cosmic tipAccept changes as they manifest with full faith in the Higher Power. Capricorn Dec 23 to Jan 20 2026 promises to be a better year especially with regard to physical and mental health; though any warning that comes from the Tarot is just a reminder not to take health lightly. Some relationships seem to be on the verge of working out and some who have been in a long-term relationship quite content with how it’s panning out. The relationship with your spouse/ partner has survived rocky part and emerged as very strong. Friendships have lasted a long time. Professionally this is a good year, whether employed or self-employed. Physical and mental healthPhysical health remains good for most of the year, but Tarot advises restraint in the diet since possible liver issues may manifest. Those with bone issues in the legs and feet, must follow their doctor’s advice to prevent it from deteriorating. Being aware of calorie intake when socializing also gets a warning buzz, as there may be weight issues. Mental health continues to be excellent. Continuing to maintain a sharp mind by doing crossword puzzles, playing Scrabble, or whatever interest you have is advised. Love and relationships2026 is the year to heal relationships, whether with family or friends. For singles there are new beginnings almost from January itself, but don’t be too enthusiastic about taking this forward as the real person is quite different to your first impressions at a party. If already in a relationship, then by now it must be strong, with both enjoying a balanced equation. With your spouse/ partner it’s another story altogether. The relationship may have been quite troubled in patches, but today it’s a strong and solid relationship based on love and acceptance. True friends are few, with all of you cherishing the bond made quite a while ago. Finance and careerThis is a good year for income, whether employed or self-employed. Self-employed Capricorns have more work than can be managed, but it feels good to know efforts are appreciated by clients. Those who are employed can expect a raise in salary after May. Job seeking Capricorns receive 6 or 7 interview calls. Travel for work increases after February, with several meetings held overseas. 2026 is especially favourable for those in the media. Cosmic tipMaintain an attitude of gratitude at all times. Aquarius Jan 21 – Feb 19 This is the right year to take physical health seriously, making sustainable lifestyle changes which include keeping habits within limits. Mental health depends on not overthinking or trying to have a perfect life (no one has a perfect life). The year brings some home-truths to the forefront that life is never perfect and it’s usually a matter of discussing issues before compromising. Couples not speaking to each other could have a reconciliation in January. Some singles are lucky to meet their potential spouse. The relationship with your spouse/ partner could do with a more tolerant attitude. Career, business and finances improve with time, as do investments and savings. Physical and mental healthMake your perfectionist mindset work towards maintaining good health by practising a method of keeping within limits; this includes diet, alcohol intake (if you drink), exercise, keeping hydrated, sleep and smoking (if you do). Some may be prone to allergies resurfacing, coughs and colds or a general lethargy (consult the doctor about this). Mental health can remain good if you stop over thinking about how to have a ‘perfect life’. Love and relationshipsAquarians who have undergone a messy and troublesome rift in the relationship can still salvage it with a compromise in January that works for both. Singles could meet their potential life partner after August. By wanting to have a perfect relationship, you may be too controlling with your spouse/ partner. Though you love talking about emotions, but secretly there’s a fear of losing control, with the person realizing what exactly is your Achille’s heel. Finance and careerCareer, finance, business is looking good, especially for those for whom 2025 wasn’t as good as expected. Income increases after June. A job offer after June is tempting, so consider it carefully as it turns out to be slightly different to what was promised. Making new investments and changing present investments a little will help to draw in even greater profits. Cosmic tipCurb an impulsive attitude, though on the surface it seems impulsiveness isn’t a part of your personality. Pisces Feb 20 - March 20 Pisceans are usually healthy and this year it holds true too, with only minor ailments to attend to. What’s most important is, they should be feeling emotionally fulfilled to feel healthy. Mental health depends on whether they are happy or sad (fortunately, this year they are happier than last year). Those considering ending the relationship with their partner/ spouse must pause to consider the reasons why, not giving into impulsive thoughts. Singles meet a couple of people that hold their interest for a while. Career/ business enters a positive karmic cycle for finance, as income/ profits increase in a sustained manner. The second half of the year is better, though much busier than the first six months. New clients are signed, but repeat clients continue remaining with the company. Physical and mental healthSome Pisceans tend to be secret hypochondriacs. Truth be told; Pisceans are as healthy as they are able to keep themselves, provided emotional life is happy and stress-free. There may be minor ailments like headaches (have your eyes checked), pain in the feet. Hairfall may be another issue, so check with the doctor about it. Absorbing sunlight whenever possible tops up vitamin D for healthy bones. Love and relationships2026 is good for relationships as long as Pisceans are willing and aware of spending time introspecting it, understanding what difference it makes to their life. Those on the verge of a break-up must pause, go for therapy and counselling first. Involving elders of both families is also ideal. Singles meet a couple of people they like after July, but get lost in finding fault and why the person is not right for them. Pisceans already in a relationship have reached a comfort level that whispers ‘this is the one for me!’ Finance and careerIn 2026, career/ business receives a shot in the arm with income and profits increasing in a sustained manner. A family holiday is enjoyable even if you spend more than budgeted. Second half of the year supports new clients being signed. March, September, October and December are highlighted for new clients being signed; repeat clients continue using the company to market their products. 05 January,2026 12:53 PM IST | Mumbai | Shirley BoseIn a blow to Shiv Sena (UBT) ahead of the Mumbai civic elections, former Mayor Shubha Raul on Sunday joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in the presence of Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, after resigning from the Uddhav Thackeray-led party. Raul’s resignation comes on the same day that Uddhav Thackeray and his cousin and Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) chief Raj Thackeray announced the manifesto of their alliance, and is being seen as a setback for the Thackeray camp. Voting for the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) and 28 other civic bodies in Maharashtra is scheduled for January 15. Raj, Uddhav Thackeray unite out of fear of ruling alliance: Fadnavis Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis said on Sunday that Uddhav and Raj Thackeray have joined forces ahead of the Mumbai civic polls because they fear the ruling Mahayuti alliance, led by the BJP, news agency PTI reported. “This is not a preeti sangam, but a bheeti sangam (the cousins have come together not out of love but out of fear),” Fadnavis said while addressing a campaign rally in north Mumbai on Sunday night. “Somebody told me that a cartoonist (Raj) and a photographer (Uddhav) have united,” he added. “I told the person that confusion and corruption have united.” Fadnavis also claimed he had offered a Rs 1,000-reward to anyone who could find Uddhav Thackeray speaking on the topic of development. “Now I have decided to increase that amount to Rs 2,000,” he said. Commenting on the Shiv Sena (Uddhav Balasaheb Thackeray) chief and Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) President unveiling their manifesto earlier in the day, Fadnavis said they could have launched it a day earlier, on the birth anniversary of Rajmata Jijabai, the mother of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj. “But in recent times, our old friends have started sitting with those allergic to Vande Mataram, so I am not aware what else they are allergic to,” he said, without naming either Raj or Uddhav. At the rally, the ruling alliance released its campaign song “Mahapalika radate aahe (municipal corporation is crying),” highlighting alleged misrule during the period when Shiv Sena (UBT) controlled the BMC, PTI reported. 05 January,2026 12:39 PM IST | Mumbai | mid-day online correspondentThe busy Eastern Express Highway, providing connectivity between Mumbai and areas under the jurisdiction of municipal corporations in the Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR) of Thane, Bhiwandi and Kalyan Dombivli, cuts through the N and S wards, which are among the northernmost wards of the city’s eastern suburbs. Comprising Ghatkopar, Vikhroli, Kanjurmarg, Bhandup, and Mulund East, the two wards are a mix of suburban residential areas and industrial and commercial zones. They are also bordered by the eastern coastline of Mumbai, leading upto the Thane creek. Areas in both wards have seen a surge in development over the past two decades, also leading to several unauthorised commercial structures dotting public places. The Indian Institute of Technology Bombay campus in Powai, which comes under the S ward. FILE PICS The surge in development and commercialisation has also raised concerns about traffic congestion in Vikhroli, Kanjurmarg, and Ghatkopar. Apart from this, the BMC has attempted to keep up its infrastructure and facilities to meet the demands of development, leading to complaints of a lack of basic facilities, such as safe drinking water and potholed roads. Due to their location along the route to major industrial hubs such as Bhiwandi, the area has also reported severe problems with worsening air quality. This area is home to Mumbai’s salt pan lands, in Ghatkopar, Kanjurmarg, Bhandup, and Mulund, which are naturally formed wetlands crucial for flood control and biodiversity, but are experiencing encroachments and conversion of vacant land for redevelopment. Upon inspection, the snake was found coiled inside the washing machine, triggering panic among the occupants. Swami carefully rescued the reptile without causing harm to either the animal or the residents. He confirmed that the snake was an Indian rat snake, a non-venomous species commonly found in urban areas. “The operation was completed smoothly, and no injuries were reported. The snake was later released into a safe and suitable habitat, in line with standard wildlife rescue protocols,” Swami said.
