Mumbai Rains: Mumbai battered by Rains on 25th July, Red Alert issued

On July 25, 2024, Mumbai rains turned out to be fatal and caused substantial disruptions and hazards throughout the city. The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) issued a red alert for Mumbai and neighbouring regions, predicting extremely heavy rainfall. The non-stop rain led to widespread waterlogging in areas such as Kurla, Andheri, BKC, and Chembur. The heavy  rain significantly impacted transportation in Mumbai. Local train services are operating at reduced speeds due to poor visibility, and several trains were suspended. Flight operations at Mumbai airport are also heavily affected, with numerous flights delayed, diverted, or canceled.The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has recorded 46 incidents of fallen trees and branches, six short circuits, and eight cases of property damage.

Caught on cam: 38 year old engineer jumps off Atal Setu bridge [VIDEO]

 In a tragic incident, a 38-year-old engineer from Palava City in Dombivli took his own life by jumping off the Atal Setu bridge. The victim, identified as Srinivas Karuturi, reportedly faced financial difficulties, as per his wife's statement to the police. Srinivas, who worked as an engineer in a private firm, drove his Tata Nexon car to the bridge and stopped there before jumping off around 12:35 pm on July 24. Police have initiated a search operation to recover his body, with coastal guards and local fishermen aiding in the effort. Srinivas' identity was confirmed through his Aadhaar card found in his wallet inside the parked car, which also contained an identity card from a construction firm where he previously worked. This incident follows a similar tragedy on July 18, when a businessman from Ghatkopar ended his life by jumping off the Bandra-Worli Sea Link after video calling his son to inform him of his intentions. His body was later found after a three hour search operation carried out by fire brigade.

Mumbai rains: Severe waterlogging and flood witnessed in many parts - WATCH

Maharashtra faced severe disruption on July 25 due to heavy rainfall, severely impacting daily life. Major parts of the state, including Mumbai, experienced extensive waterlogging and flooding, making commuting a challenge for residents. Mumbai rains created a huge ruckus in the city. The weather department warned of gusty winds up to 50-60 kmph alongside the heavy rains. Temperatures were moderate, ranging from 24 to 29 degrees Celsius. Mumbai was issued a yellow warning for heavy showers on the 25th of July while an orange alert was issued for Palghar, Thane, Raigad, Satara, Ratnagiri, and Pune. Sindhudurg in the Konkan region also remained on yellow alert. The situation prompted authorities to advise caution and preparedness across the affected areas.

A tragic incident occurred in Dombivli, Mumbai, where a woman named Nagina Devi Manjiram fell from the third floor of a building and passed away. The incident took place at the Globe State building in the Vikas Naka area on Dombivli East Kalyan Sheel Road. According to reports, Nagina Devi, who worked as a cleaner at the office, was sitting near the staircase on the third floor with her colleague when she accidentally lost her balance and fell. On Friday morning, 12th July, Mumbai woke up to heavy rains across the city. The incessant rains caused severe waterlogging across several areas in the city post Mumbai Rains. Massive waterlogging was witnessed at King’s Circle in Mumbai. Visuals of the waterlogged roads from the King's Circle area surfaced online wherein authorities in reflective rain gear could be seen giving directions to the driver to steer him clear of a dangerous spot. Pedestrians and vehicles crossed heavily waterlogged streets at the King’s Circle. The latest forecast predicts heavy to very heavy rains over Mumbai and MMR areas likely in next 48 hours which may create waterlogging as rain will be consistently moderate to heavy for at least next 24-36 hours.

Mumbai train bombings 2006: A casual evening that turned into a tragedy!

11th July 2003, a date that remains etched in the hearts of every Mumbaikar. On this day, an ordinary evening turned out to be a fateful one for local train commuters of Mumbai as a series of devastating bombings rocked the financial capital city. On 11th July, 2006, the biggest tragedy of Mumbai i.e. Mumbai train bombing took place. It was 6:24 PM, when a sudden blast rocked a local train between Khar and Santa Cruz stations, piercing the evening calm with tragedy. Within minutes, six more explosions tore through train compartments at Matunga, Mahim, Bandra, Jogeshwari, Borivali, and Mira Road. The sequence of terror unfolded swiftly, targeting innocent commuters who were simply traveling home after a day's work. The blasts left 209 people dead and over 700 injured, shocking the city to its core and leaving families and friends reeling in disbelief and anguish.
