The word discount can do wonders for a product, but for Jet Airways it is only partly true.
More than 15,000 passengers, from across India, booked tickets on its 50 per cent discount offer yesterday, but they are wary of buying tickets after the discount period ends.
They fear cancellati- ons due to any lingering effects of the strike, say travel agents. The discounted bookings can be done till tomorrow for all flights till September 18.
Agents in the city acknowledged that the new offer had increased footfall.
Rakesh Tours and Travels, added, "We did 60 bookings yesterday. All of them were for the discount period. People are not confident about booking after the offer ends."
The fliers who did book tickets for the post discount period raised concern over cancellations, they added.
But not every passenger is skeptical.
Prashant Sanghvi, a businessman and frequent flier, booked a discounted ticket from Bhopal to Mumbai yesterday.
He said, "Last week's saga has given the airline a bad name, but it will be back on track soon, as it is still the biggest player in the market."
Jet Airways spokesperson Srirupa Sen said, "People are not scared of booking a Jet ticket. Bookings started
at 5.55 am yesterday and the response was overwhelming.
We booked more than 15,000 tickets on the first day."
In court yesterday
The High Court issued a show cause notice to the National Aviators Guild and ruled out any possibility of overlooking the matter, after the settlement between the management and the pilots.
When the matter came up for hearing, Jet said it wanted to withdraw the contempt petition, but the bench denied the request saying the pilots and the union had violated the Chief Justice's order.
The next hearing is on October 5.
