Ajit Pawar death: NCP Leader Zirwar hints out at Sunetra Pawar to take Ministry

Hours after the sudden demise of NCP chief Ajit Pawar, the political debates have been ignited. Senior NCP leader and Maharashtra FDA minister Narhari Zirwal on Thursday said that the public wants Deputy CM Ajit Pawar's wife, Sunetra Pawar, to be brought into the state ministry. Ajit Pawar's Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) is a constituent of the ruling Mahayuti alliance in the state along with the BJP and the Eknath Shinde-led Shiv Sena. Considering that Sunetra Pawar is currently a Rajya Sabha member, she could be sworn in as the minister.  Asked about the NCP's future after Ajit Pawar's death, Zirwal said that people want "vahini" (sister-in-law, referring to Sunetra Pawar) to be included in the ministry. Zirwal, who is one of the close confidants of the former Deputy Chief Minister, while talking to the media, said, "We will talk to the leadership about it and take a decision," as per PTI.  To a question on the merger of the two NCP groups, Zirwal commented, ''The two factions are already together. Everyone has realised that there is no point in remaining scattered and that they have to be together.'' Deputy CM Ajit Pawar cremated with full state honours Earlier on Wednesday, Ajit Pawar and four others were killed when the chartered plane that took off from Mumbai crashed at Baramati in the Pune district. The last rites of Ajit Pawar were performed with full state honours on Thursday at Baramati. Union Home Minister Amit Shah and Union Minister Nitin Gadkari attended the funeral held at the Vidya Pratishthan ground, which is around 100 km from Pune. Several senior leaders cutting across party lines were also present to pay their final respects to the 66-year-old Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) chief. Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis and Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde were also among those present, along with Pawar’s wife, Sunetra Pawar, and sons, Parth and Jay. His cousin Supriya Sule and NCP working president Praful Patel also attended. As Pawar’s mortal remains, wrapped in the national flag, were brought from his native Katewadi village to the funeral venue, thousands of supporters gathered, raising slogans of "Ajit Dada amar rahe." In July 2023, Ajit Pawar had joined the then Eknath Shinde-led state government, triggering a split in the NCP founded by his uncle Sharad Pawar.  (With inputs from PTI)

Ajit Pawar death: Shaina NC slams Mamata Banerjee over ‘conspiracy’ claim

After Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar’s death in a plane crash, Shiv Sena leader Shaina NC on Thursday slammed West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee.  Shain slammed Mamata Banerjee for alleging a conspiracy behind the demise of Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister, urging her and others to refrain from politicising someone’s death. Speaking to media on Thursday, after Ajit Pawar's sudden demise, West Bengal CM Banerjee claimed that Ajit Pawar was likely to leave the NDA and had been planning to return to the Opposition's INDIA bloc. In reply, Shaina NC termed the comments 'inappropriate and insensitive' while cautioning against using the unfortunate incident for political point-scoring. The Shiv Sena leader asserted, “Mamata Banerjee, please do not do politics on someone’s death. It may be a political issue for you, but for the country, it was a shocking incident in which a senior leader lost his life,” as per IANS. She also added, “He had gone to Baramati for work. Technical failure is a possibility, and there should be an investigation, but calling it a conspiracy is not right. This is not the script of a B-grade film. If you cannot express sympathy, then please refrain from making such statements.” No conspiracy behind Ajit Pawar’s death The Shiv Sena leader further clarified that there is no conspiracy behind the deputy chief minister’s sudden demise. Shaina also said, “Sharad Pawar has stated that it was a technical failure. Everything will become clear in the coming days. Those who are trying to politicise this tragedy should remember that death is not a gift; it is sometimes a matter of fate,” as per IANS.  Recalling Ajit Pawar’s long political career, she said that the Maharashtra Chief Minister devoted nearly five decades of his life to public service in Maharashtra. Shaina NC hails Ajit Pawar Hailing the NCP chief, Shaina emphasised, “Ajit Pawar contributed nearly 50 years to Maharashtra politics. He began his career as an MLA from Baramati, went on to become Finance Minister and Irrigation Minister, and served as Deputy Chief Minister six times. Unfortunately, he passed away at the age of 66 years, six months and six days. If we talk about an able administrator, Ajit Pawar ‘Dada’ will always be remembered as one,” as per IANS.  Shaina NC, while highlighting that the Maharashtra political circle will remain incomplete after Ajit Pawar’s death, said, “He worked tirelessly for Baramati and for Maharashtra. The vacuum left by his demise will be deeply felt. With leaders like Eknath Shinde and Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, he played a crucial role, and his absence is a major loss to Maharashtra politics.”  She further noted that Ajit Pawar was not only a mass leader but also an accessible administrator. “One of his most remarkable qualities was that every morning from 6 am to 7.30 am, his OPD ward was open, where people came with their problems. He listened to them patiently and worked diligently to resolve their issues, dedicating his time to public service,” Shaina NC added. (With inputs from IANS)

Newly elected NCP corporators in BMC seek guidance after Ajit Pawar demise

Three Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) candidates were elected to the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation’s (BMC) 227-member general body on January 16. With the leadership in the NCP in immediate lurch due to the demise of Deputy Chief Minister and party chief Ajit Pawar, the newly elected representatives are now left looking to other party leaders for guidance and advice, steadfast that they have support from the party, and willing to continue supporting their party in turn. The NCP faction led by Ajit decided to break away from the Mahayuti alliance — its partner in the BJP-ruled government in Maharashtra — and contest the BMC elections alone. Subsequently, three candidates from NCP were elected to the BMC’s general body — Ayesha Khan from ward number 96; Sayeeda Khan from ward number 168; and Bushra Nadeem Malik from ward 170. In contrast, the Mahayuti Alliance secured 118 seats in the polls. With news of Pawar’s demise, most members from the NCP leadership, party workers, and all elected representatives decided to travel to Baramati to be there for the Pawar family, and pay their respects. Speaking with mid-day on Wednesday afternoon, Ayesha Khan said, “I am travelling to Baramati with my family. All of us have decided to go, and there is no question otherwise. I offer my condolences to the family, and I will stand strong with my party.” When asked about how she views her future with the party, especially as an elected representative in BMC, she said, “There is no question about this.” Ajit Pawar plane crash Live updates: Follow our live blog for real-time updates Saeeda Khan remained unavailable for comment, and an aide of Bushra Khan told mid-day that she was unavailable for comment. Meanwhile, with support and grief pouring in from across party lines, a senior state leader from NCP said, “Dada is irreplaceable. This party is part of his legacy. But now is our time to grieve.” Rakhee Jadhav, former group leader in BMC from the undivided NCP in 2017, who switched to the BJP ahead of the recent BMC elections and was elected for yet another tenure, said, “I am travelling with other party members and leaders to Baramati.  We will reach tonight (Wednesday). Even though I’m in a different party now, Dada is a figure I deeply respect.  I learnt a lot from his leadership… like punctuality, putting your people’s needs first, and how to approach work. His work ethic has left a deep mark on me. These kinds of ties transcend our day-to-day politics.” ThreeNo. of NCP corporators in BMC
