Railway ticket counter opens at post offices

Central railway has launched the Passenger Reservation System (PRS) service in a bid to reduce queues outside the reservation counters at railway stations.

Central railway has launched the Passenger Reservation System (PRS) service in a bid to reduce queues outside the reservation counters at railway stations.

The new service will allow people to buy reservation tickets from post offices. However the post office will levy au00a0small fee from the buyer for the service.

Initially, the system has been installed at IIT Powai post office. CR authorities claim that within few months the system will be activated at post offices across the city.


A K Singh, PRO, CR said, "We are very sure that this system will give relief to the people who have stand in queue for hours. On the day of starting the service at Powai, around 24 forms were filled up."



Working hours of PRS counter at the Post offices will be from 8am to 8pm on all working days of India Post.

"The railway authorities will give all the equipments required for reservationu00a0and India Post will provide the staff for issuing ticket at their cost. Training of the staff will be given by us," adds Singh.

India post will levy service charge ofu00a0Rs 15 for sleeper class, Rs 20 for III AC, Rs 30 for II and I AC and Rs 10 for cancellation for all the classes.

Only long distance tickets will be sold and as of now there are no plans to sell local train tickets on these counters.u00a0

Officials from India Post said they have already started issuing tickets from one place and are working out for the others.
