In light of BMC Elections 2026, the Mumbai civic body has organised training sessions for its officials and employees, officials said on Friday, adding that the officials have been warned of action against those missing the mandatory election training.
The training will begin from Monday, December 29 2025, to Saturday, January 3, 2026, and from Monday, January 5, 2026, to Friday, January 9, 2026.

Attendance mandatory
The BMC statement said, "Information regarding the date, time and location of the training has been communicated separately to all concerned officers and employees. Attendance at this training is mandatory for all officers and employees. The administration has issued a strict warning that, as per the directives of the Honourable State Election Commission, Maharashtra, criminal action will be taken against officers and employees who are absent from the training or fail to comply with the orders."
The BMC elections will be held on Thursday, January 15, 2026, from 7.30 am to 5.30 pm.
The counting of votes and declaration of results will take place from 10.00 am onwards on Friday, January 16, 2026.
The training is being provided for Presiding Officers (PRO), Assistant Presiding Officers (APRO), Polling Officers (PO) and other staff. It will provide detailed guidance on responsibilities in the election process, the Model Code of Conduct, voting and counting procedures, legal matters, and actions to be taken in emergency situations.
Avoid errors
The BMC statement added, "The main objective of the election training is to ensure that the election process remains reliable and transparent, avoiding any errors, confusion or irregularities."
10,300 polling stations across Mumbai
The BMC has announced that there will be 10,300 polling stations across Mumbai on January 15, 2026, for the BMC polls. Of these 700 odd polling stations are located inside the premises of housing societies.
Effectively, there are 190 more polling stations for the BMC elections in comparison to the polling stations for the Vidhan Sabha elections conducted in 2024, which were pegged at 10,111.
