The Maharashtra State Election Commission (SEC) on Friday announced Mumbai's high-stake BMC Election 2026 results and according to the data BJP turned out to be the largest party, securing 45.22 per cent of the total votes polled in favour of winning candidates.
According to the data, on Friday night, results for 227 wards across Mumbai were declared, which suggested that BJP won 89 followed by Shiv Sena (UBT) that won 65, receiving 27.52 per cent of the votes.
BMC Election 2026 Results: Parties and the number of winning candidates
The Indian National Congress secured 24 seats, accounting for 9.31 per cent of the votes. The All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) won eight seats, while the Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) secured six seats.

It further stated that the Eknath Shinde-led Shiv Sena won 29, Ajit Pawar-led NCP - 3, Samajwadi Party -2, Sharad Pawar-led NCP (SP) 1, Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) 6.
The AAP failed to open its account.
As many as 1700 candidates were in fray for the Mumbai civic body polls.
The BMC is India’s richest municipal corporation and has an estimated budget of Rs 74,427 crore for 2025-26.
BMC Election 2026: Party-wise Results (Winning Candidates)
Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP): 89 winning candidates; 1,179,273 votes; 21.58% of total votes polled; 45.22% of winning candidates’ votes.
Shiv Sena (Uddhav Balasaheb Thackeray): 65 winning candidates; 717,736 votes; 13.13% of total votes polled; 27.52% of winning candidates’ votes.
Shiv Sena: 29 winning candidates; 273,326 votes; 5.00% of total votes polled; 10.48% of winning candidates’ votes.
Indian National Congress (INC): 24 winning candidates; 242,646 votes; 4.44% of total votes polled; 9.31% of winning candidates’ votes.
All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM): 8 winning candidates; 68,072 votes; 1.25% of total votes polled; 2.61% of winning candidates’ votes.
Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS): 6 winning candidates; 74,946 votes; 1.37% of total votes polled; 2.87% of winning candidates’ votes.
Nationalist Congress Party (NCP): 3 winning candidates; 24,691 votes; 0.45% of total votes polled; 0.95% of winning candidates’ votes.
Samajwadi Party (SP): 2 winning candidates; 15,162 votes; 0.28% of total votes polled; 0.58% of winning candidates’ votes.
Nationalist Congress Party – Sharadchandra Pawar: 1 winning candidate; 11,760 votes; 0.22% of total votes polled; 0.45% of winning candidates’ votes.
Total: 227 winning candidates; 2,607,612 votes; 47.72% of total votes polled; 100% of winning candidates’ votes.
Four former Mumbai mayors and three deputy mayors retain seats
Four former Mumbai mayors and three former deputy mayors on Friday emerged winners from the wards they were contesting BMC Election 2026.
Former mayors, Kishori Pednekar (Shiv Sena UBT) won from ward 199, Vishakha Raut won from ward 191, Shradda Jadhav (Shiv Sena UBT) won from ward 202, and Milind Vaidya, also from Shiv Sena (UBT) won from ward 182.
Similarly, former deputy mayors, Hemangi Worlikar (Shiv Sena UBT) won from ward 193, Suhas Wadkar from ward 141, and Alka Kerkar from ward 98 in Bandra West.
Arun Gawli's both daughters face loss in BMC polls
In a major setback to gangster-turned-politician Arun Gawli, both his daughters lost the BMC polls from their respective wards in south and central Mumbai on Friday.
According to election officials, Gawli’s elder daughter Geeta, who was seeking a fourth term from Ward 212 in the Byculla-Agipada area, was defeated by Samajwadi Party candidate Amrin Shezad Abrahani., according to the PTI.
His younger daughter Yogita, who was contesting elections for the first time from Ward 207 in the Byculla-Chinchpokli area, lost to BJP candidate Rohidas Lokhande.
Geeta Gawli was first elected as a corporator from Byculla East in 2007 and later became a well-known local leader. She had also contested the Maharashtra Assembly elections in 2012 and 2017 but lost on both occasions.

Maharashtra local body poll results
Meanwhile, The Maharashtra State Election Commission (SEC) late on Friday declared results for 2,784 of the 2,869 seats across 29 municipal corporations in the state. The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) emerged as the single largest party, winning 1,372 seats.
An official said that the results for the remaining 85 seats are expected to be announced later in the night.
According to data released by the SEC, the Eknath Shinde-led Shiv Sena won 394 seats, followed by the Congress with 315 seats. Ajit Pawar’s Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) secured 158 seats, while the Uddhav Thackeray-led Shiv Sena (UBT) won 149 seats, reported the PTI.
Municipal corporation elections were held on January 15 in major cities, including Navi Mumbai, Thane, Pune, Nagpur, Nashik, Pimpri-Chinchwad, Kalyan-Dombivli, Vasai-Virar, Panvel, Mira-Bhayandar, and several others across the state.
The elections were conducted after a gap of several years, as the terms of most municipal corporations had ended between 2020 and 2023. Of the 29 corporations, nine are located in the Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR), which is considered the most urbanised region in India.
