A minor fire was reported in the electric locomotive of the Mumbai Central–Valsad Fast passenger train on Wednesday evening.

According to officials, flashes and flames were noticed at around 7:56 pm. The train was immediately halted at Kelve Road Station near Mumbai as a precautionary measure.

“All passengers are safe. No harm or injury has been reported,” the Western Railway said in a statement.

However, railway authorities added that the down trains towards Surat may experience delays due to the disruption.

For safety, the overhead equipment (OHE) supply was temporarily switched off.

Senior officials and railway staff rushed to the site to take stock of the situation. The train continues to remain stationed at Kelve Road platform while technical checks are being carried out.

The on duty staff, Aditya Kumar, Som Prakash, and Radheshyam rushed to the scene and engaged in the dousing operation with the help of eight fire extinguishers.
