The Director General of Training, Department of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship (DSDE), has approved the introduction of new courses in 70 Government Industrial Training Institutes (ITIs) in Maharashtra, Mangal Prabhat Lodha, state Minister of Skill Development, Employment, Entrepreneurship and Innovation stated.
He added that the changing curriculum will “revolutionise” ITIs in Maharashtra by increasing employment opportunities.
Meanwhile, approval has also been given for setting up of Government High-Level Industrial Training Institute at Chembur in Mumbai, the minister added.
The courses have been introduced with an aim to implement schemes based on environmental conservation. The state believes that the demand for technicians in the sector will increase considering the need for solar energy-related technologies and solar technicians and mechanised electric vehicles in Maharashtra.
Currently, two new courses – Solar Technician (Electric) and EV Mechanic (Electric Vehicle) – have been requisitioned by the Directorate of Vocational Education and Training to the Director General of Training, Department of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship.
The Skill Development Department has been implementing various innovative initiatives under the guidance of Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis. The new courses are being started in a time-bound manner, based on the suggestions of senior scientist Dr Raghunath Mashelkar and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Maharashtra Institution for Transformation (MITRA) Praveen Pardeshi in a time-bound manner. Currently, 70 ITIs in the state will teach them. Lodha also said that action will be taken to grant approval to those ITIs that seek new courses.
New ITI to come up in Chembur, Mumbai
The Director General of Training, Department of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship (DSDE), Government of India, has accorded approval for establishment of a high-level ITI at Chembur for social empowerment and upliftment of Scheduled Caste (SC), Scheduled Tribe (ST) and neo-Buddhist trainees.
Lodha also said that the Skill Development Department is looking to create maximum skilled human resource by imparting education to students in Government ITIs in a time-bound manner. “In line with the National Education Policy, the state is looking to increase training and coaching facilities with the help of industrial establishments along with providing more and more employment opportunities every year. Emphasis is being laid on starting new skill-based courses in ITIs. More demanding courses required by the industry, are being introduced,” said Lodha.
He added that emphasis is being laid on creating more employment opportunities by creating more skilled manpower through technology demonstrations and Yuva Shakti career guidance camps.
