The Navghar police have booked and arrested a 25-year-old man based on a complaint filed by a 23-year-old air hostess, who alleged that her colleague had sexually assaulted her at his residence in Mira Road. The incident took place on June 29.
Both, the accused and the victim, worked as crew members on a United Kingdom-based airline. According to the complaint registered with the Navghar police on July 18, after their flight landed in Mumbai from London, the accused, Devashish Sharma, invited her to his residence and forcefully kissed, and sexually assaulted her.
A sub-inspector from the Navghar police station told mid-day, “The victim registered the case almost a month later, as she was scared. We are trying to talk to her as sensitively as possible to get the whole picture of what had happened on the day of the crime and why she took so many days to register the case.”
The accused has been placed under arrest, and further investigation into the case has been launched, said the officer. “He will remain in police custody till Tuesday, where he will go through a medical examination, and will later be produced before a court. We will also file the chargesheet soon,” added the sub-inspector.
