The complainant, Sniden Joshef Buthelo, a call centre employee residing at Buthelo House, Devalwadi, Sahar Road, Andheri East, had set out for the Basilica of Our Lady of the Mount in Bandra West on October 1, around 4 am. According to the police, upon reaching his destination, Buthelo realised his car’s petrol indicator was not functioning, and the fuel had run out. Seeking help, he approached a biker — later identified as Chaudhary — who told him they could refill his bike and then transfer the petrol to the car using a plastic bottle. Chaudhary took Buthelo to a Kalina petrol pump on his bike, where he refilled his bike.

Meanwhile, he made a phone call to his associate Khan. On their way back, the Chaudhary took a diversion to an isolated spot in Bandra Kurla Complex, where Khan was waiting. The accused then allegedly pulled out a knife, threatened to kill Buthelo, and beat him with a bamboo stick. They robbed him of two mobile phones and also transferred Rs 57,000 from his bank account.
