Mumbai: Rolling Stock for Metro line 2A, line 7 reach city from Bengaluru

According to MMRDA officials, the trail run on metro 2A and metro line 7 is expected to begin in March this year, and the operations are expected to begin from May.

The much-awaited rolling stock of the Dahisar-D N Nagar metro line 2A and Dahisar-Andheri East metro line 7 have finally reached Mumbai after a long road journey from Bengaluru.




Posting about the same on its officials Twitter handle MMMRDA said, "#MMRDAMetroUpdate. It's time to welcome & celebrate the new chapter of #MumbaiInMinutes! \uD83D\uDE87
Rolling Stocks from Mumbai Metro Line 2A & Line 7 have reached their destination! \uD83C\uDF8A."

It may be noted that the first rakes of both these important corridors reached Mumbai on Thursday morning. Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray will unveil the rakes at the Charkop metro depot on Friday.

The trailers carrying the Made in India rakes left for Mumbai on January 24 from the manufacturing unit of Bharat Earth Movers Limited. According to MMRDA officials, the trail run on metro 2A and metro line 7 is expected to begin in March this year, and the operations are expected to begin from May.

The completion of this metro corridor is going on in full swing on the arterial new link road and the Western Express Highway between Andheri and Dahisar. On the majority of the stretch on both these corridors, the girders have been launched over the piers and the station completion work is also progressing.

The fares on the above-mentioned corridor would be as per the fare fixation committee which would be Rs 10 for 0-3 km, Rs 20- for 3-12 km, Rs 30 for 12-18 km, Rs 40 for 18-24 km, and Rs 50 for 24-30 km and so on.

MMRDA has undertaken the construction of many infrastructure projects in Mumbai including the expansion of the metro network in Mumbai and Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR) by taking up Dahisar-Andheri East metro line, Dahisar-D N Nagar metro line, Wadala-Thane-Kasarvadavli metro line, D N Nagar-Mandale Metro line, Swami Samarth Nagar metro line and also other infrastructure projects like Mumbai Trans Harbor Link Project connecting Sewree with Nhava Sheva.

Metro line 7

  • Metro Line 7 from Andheri (E) to Dahisar (E) is a 16.475 km long elevated corridor with 13 stations.
  • It shall provide interconnectivity among the existing Western Express Highway, Western Railway, Metro Line 1 (Ghatkopar to Versova), the ongoing Metro Line 2A (Dahisar to D N Nagar), and the proposed Metro Line 6 (Swami Samarth Nagar to Vikhroli).
  • It shall facilitate smooth and efficient interchange with the suburban rail system and MRT system at Andheri, JVLR, and Dahisar.
  • It shall provide connectivity between Central Mumbai and the Northern suburban Mumbai.
  • It shall provide rail based access to the Mumbai International Airport (CSIA), SEEPZ, National Park, and other commercial and geographical landmarks.
  • Dedicated Depot is planned at Dahisar to an extent of 15 Ha.
  • It shall reduce the current travel time by anything between 50 per cent and 75 per cent depending on road conditions.

Metro Line 2A

  • Metro Line 2A from Dahisar to D N Nagar is an 18.589 km long elevated corridor with 17 stations.
  • It shall provide interconnectivity among the existing Western Express Highway, Western Railway, Metro Line 1 (Ghatkopar to Versova), the ongoing Metro Lines 2B (D N Nagar to Mandale) & 7 (Andheri (E) to Dahisar (E), and the proposed Metro Line 6 (Swami Samarth Nagar to Vikhroli).
  • It shall facilitate smooth and efficient interchange with the suburban rail system and MRT system at Dahisar and D N Nagar.
  • It shall provide connectivity between the Western, Central Mumbai, and the Northern suburban Mumbai.
  • It shall provide rail based access to the commercial and geographical landmarks in Mumbai.
  • It shall reduce the current travel time by anything between 50 pc and 75 pc depending on road conditions.ย
