After an intense spell of rain in Mumbai and parts of Maharashtra since the early hours of Monday, the Indian Meteorological Department on Tuesday issued an orange alert. The orange alert was issued for Mumbai and other suburban districts, predicting heavy to very heavy rainfall.
Earlier, IMD stated that Mumbai on Tuesday will experience generally cloudy skies that will prevail throughout the day, with moderate to heavy rain likely at isolated spots.

The heavy rain showers from Monday have led to minor disruptions in traffic movement across some areas of the city, causing havoc among the commuters.
The weather agency, while issuing the advisory, also asserted that “moderate to intense spells of rain are very likely to occur at isolated places in the districts of Mumbai in the next few hours.”
With high tide expected at 10:18 AM at a height of 4.17 meters and again at 9:57 PM at 3.53 meters. Whereas the civic authorities also issued the release stating that low tide is forecasted at 4:11 PM at 2.08 meters, with the next low tide occurring at 4:12 AM on July 23 at 0.64 meters.
Between 8 AM on July 21 and 8 AM on July 22, Mumbai recorded 65.69 mm of rainfall. Adding to the data, the civic authority also informed us that the eastern suburbs received 48.87 mm, while the western suburbs registered 61.90 mm.
Lake Levels
Amid the heavy Mumbai rains of the last couple of days, the water levels in lakes supplying drinking water to Mumbai have risen significantly. According to Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) data, the combined stock in the seven reservoirs that provide water to the city now stands at 85.32 per cent.
On Tuesday (July 22), the collective water stock in these reservoirs is 1,234,836 million litres, which amounts to 85.32 per cent of their total capacity, as per the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation.
The BMC supplies drinking water daily from Upper Vaitarna, Modak Sagar, Tansa, Middle Vaitarna, Bhatsa, Vihar, and Tulsi lakes.
